Employees claim new return-to-office policy is a quiet layoff

Dell paid over $700 million in severance costs last year after it conducted two rounds of layoffs, one in February and one in August, according to its third-quarter earnings report. Layoffs have been ongoing but they also continue to hire back employees that have been let go.

When you return to the office, pay close attention to those around you. You'll see that many struggle to work a full day (most will barely do half a day’s work) and become exhausted by week two. These are the folks who didn’t do anything when we had work-from-home privileges, and they are the reason you're being asked to come back to the office full time.

Hey guys - if you wounder about the 700 Million DELL payed for severance cost.
That number is real.

But 90% of that moneys goes to former DELL employees in Europe and other regions of the world with strong rights for workers.

We have constant Layout here at Dell Germany to - but if the company wants to fire you, and you had been worked for DELL for more than 10 years, the had to pay you 1 full year of your salary, up to 150.000$ per person.

@a3+1jm0fmx9s - what leverage? Unless you're an exec int he US with a golden parachute written into your contract, you have exactly zero leverage in a WFR. You either take Dell's money and move along or you don't take Dell's money, move along, and try to find an attorney to sue Dell for you with multiple months salary you no longer are receiving.

Dell is doing the minimum to comply with federal law.

Not doing what you are required to do and doing a bad job is a great way to get fired without severance too!

@a3+1jm0fmx9s. There are circumstances that mandate severance pay and continuation of benefits. For example, in the case where an employer has not provided adequate notice, it can provide severance in lieu of notice. Unclear this is a fine. Moreover, companies to publicly disclose the WARN Act, just the worker and the State as required. We've all seen job eliminations and park the employee(s) at home for the 60 days with full salary and benefits. Day 61 👋 👋

The plan is to push more out and take on young kids at a lower payscale.
Fact.

Dell does NOT follow the WARN. Do not be confused about what you are being given. The TWO MONTHS plus one week per year of service is NOT the severance package. It is Dell paying the two month FINE plus a one week per year of service as severance. Use that as leverage when you get laid off. (I was going to say "if" instead of when but, we all know what is going on and another 20% will be cut in 2025.) I wonder how much of that 700 million was the fines for not following WARN and how much was actually "severance".

So, they can’t possibly be encouraging people to quit? Look up the fallacy of incomplete evidence bro.
