Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Friday Massacre

Taking the chance to work for this company was the worst experience of my career. I feel terrible for the amazing leaders we lost today, I am sure my role is next. Onward and upward.

Anyone know who or which departments this occurred in? No real info provided and just left wondering who and why and what is next.

If you are questioning why long term, high performers are cut. There is just 1 answer.....the almighty dollar!!! It's about saving money.

It isn’t ageism. It isn’t performance related. It isn’t tenure with the company. What made this especially bad is how random it was. Weeks ago leaders were told to make a 20% cut and had to “give names and titles” of people being cut. But the cuts had to come from all levels. You have manager A with directs 1, 2 and 3. Those each have directs a, b, and c. Each of those have directs 1a, 1b and 1c. Without speaking to anyone else (being told not to), manager A has to cut from ALL of those levels. My manager had to make cuts to people on a team of people who reported to one of my direct reports. My manager cut the highest performer and a middle performer. My manager did not know that. It was random. My manager was asked for names and had 2 hours to supply them. People on these boards act like there was intent. There was no intent. It was random. I saw it with my own eyes. They weren’t decisions. They were randomly chosen names.

I was one who was let go this morning. I’m devastated but not surprised. Ten years and a high performer with all 5’s the last several years. Needless to say it doesn’t matter how well you do your job. We’re all just a number. Hopefully bigger and better things will come.

Yep those who are staying are the ones who show that I am willing to lie, cheat, follow any directive no matter how scheming it may be. If you have integrity, this company is not for you.

@a2 while no one was impacted on my team, I see the decimation and its sickening! I know extremely high performers with 20-30 years of tenure that got axed! Ageism at its worst!

I had an amazing leader who was let go. It feels like the company is prioritizing a more aggressive management approach instead of one that motivates and inspires employees.

Agreed! I’m surprised by some of the company’s retention decisions. High performers are laid off while low contributors stay. Leadership quality is poor, and decisions appear driven by popularity and favoritism rather than merit.
