Thread regarding IBM layoffs

New Year. And New goals

I am looking forward to going back to work tomorrow.
Last year I logged in 93 Hours of learning. I did more than Think 40.

Jim Kavanaugh said to upskill, so I did. I led a Watson X challenge team, Arvind's bold leadership is going to make IBM a power player.

I was hired in June of last year and I know I can get to be a Band 7 this year.

What a fool, doing far more education hours then the expected 40 just beens your skills are not really needed if you got that much free time. The valued employees are ones that struggle to get 40 cause they are to busy to take classes. So think about it, management wear different glasses then what you think they do.

The number of Think40 hrs completed has a negligible impact on whether you’ll be laid off or not

' You are dealing with Indian fraud and corruption, which makes the Somali fraud in MN like child's play. '

yup, indians when they are born immediately obtain
10 certifications in untrustworthiness, deception, and stealing
they continually medal in those fields

@ea There are customers who are experimenting with it and co-investing with IBM, because that's what Quantum is right now - a science experiment. No matter how many pictures of fancy gold cooling towers they publish, there still is no such thing as an actual error-corrected quantum computer. Right now, QC is at the stage of people noticing that vacuum tubes can switch a current and that switches can be used to perform calculations. It was a long way from that to an actual computer.

@e8
Are there any customers for Quantum yet?

The stock price is temporary and everyone knows it. IBM is in no way shape or form a contender in the AI market, watsonx is as big of a failure as the original watson. IBM is a contender in Quantum, but a useful quantum computer is at least 25-30 years out if you talk off the record to the people who actually know. IBM is running out of money to acquire companies and out of employees to RA, so the momentum is unsustainable.

@az in case no one has noticed, the IBM stock price is currently around $293 on Jan 2, 2026. Is this a sign of things to come ? or will Alvind and Krabanaugh try and prop it up on some pretext (AI, Quantum, Cloud, Security or even India's unbuilt toilets) ? Someone must have the right answers, even if it's Joanne Wrong.

@OP is Alvind's bold leadership going to create more public toilets outside the IBM campuses where they are sorely needed? After all, more toilets are needed in India. Or is Mr. Upskill (Krabanaugh) going to build them ?

I’m looking forward to having today off, and going back in Monday to see where the Pipmunks have shuffled the deck chairs on the titanic while I use my paychecks to build up my “just in case” fund more and will spend IBMs time job hunting while they pay me for it. F this place.

@aq

Why is everyone criticizing Jim K?

He said he wanted IBM at 300 and he got it.

Now thats a man who knows finance

@OP so Kavanaugh said to upskill and you took the dolt at his word.

How come you did not upskill in wan-ing, which coincidentally is not a city in China ? Happy New Year learning new and impressive skills. Has Kavanaugh shown any anyone what he has upskilled in for the past 10 years other than cooking the IBM books ?

@a9 no the corporate boot is lodged 3/4 of the way up this loser's backside. He can' tell the different between reality and vivid imagination.

@OP I hate to break it to ya, but you'll be lucky to get to your Band 7 promotion anytime soon (in 2026). Alvind needs the all $$ he can collect from fools like you (who believe in his lies and excuses) for his year end bonus. So put your head between your legs and kiss you You-know-what goodbye. You are dealing with Indian fraud and corruption, which makes the Somali fraud in MN like child's play. How do you think IBM has been able to dodge the DHS when it comes to transferring US jobs to India and providing some lame and pathetic excuse or the other ? You need a reality check in 2026.

@OP

What's most impressive is that you did all that with the corporate boot lodged 3/4 of the way down your esophagus.

Why isn't it relevant? They wanted 40 hours. I more than doubled it.

"Arvind's bold leadership.."

Sounds like the same PR operatives assigned to the Gerster thread are spiling on the new pages.

@a2, I doubt, @OP will be laid off this quarter. He is most likely a new hire out of school.
@OP, counting the learning hour is not relevant.

@OP

Good for you... does not mean anything these days at IBM...
You could get laid off in Q1 2026, like anybody else!

Sorry for the bad news.
