Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Will new person on BOD save us from more layoffs?

Steve-o appointed a Deep state Trump admin guy with solid GOP credentials just this week. Do we think this olive branch is enough of a quid-pro-quo to quiet the admin from removing the individual mandate and divert Health Insurance Corporate Welfare directly into patient HSAs? Will this stop the hemorrhaging?

@dq Medicare isn’t going anywhere, so I think you have your answer. Plus it’s a federal job with federal benefits, including more holidays, vacation and a real retirement program!

@dq zero stability if you work here and are a US citizen. take the job if you have to but keep looking for something else.

@dq no stability with any Optum role. Cuts will continue next year. Stock surprisingly is not rebounding and C suite seems to have no plan other then to cut staff

Recommendation is to stay away from Optum / United unless you love playing Hunger Games. We all know we are tributes and anyone that can get out is leaving

I’m up for 2 jobs. One at Optum the other Medicare. Which is more stable? Optum seems like they have layoffs round the clock. It would be OptumServe.

Politicians have nothing to do with Optum’s decision to layoff… they have NEVER had an logic to it…

I don't see how we hold margins. we've already outsourced so much to India.

what do we cut? Optum building/selling products? if we took 1 second for strategy we could turn around negative IOI, instead they cut teams and roll money into Hay Eye and cushy partnerships with Indian companies.

Steve getting a Trump loyalist isn't going to outweigh thousands of CEOs planning to cut employee healthcare costs.

US business is salivating at eliminating ACA or watering down the mandate so Aflac and and HSA count as "health insurance". Premiums swap to employee stipends indexed by CPI rather than healthcare inflation.

With real choice, consumers picking their own plan will cancel their UHC policy and Optum HSA. Healthy people will drop coverage and the death spiral will begin.

@a6 the government could limit their ability to use federal/state funds to pay dividends. Huge political win for both sides. I suspect health insurance lobbyists pushing hard against this.

I'm on a team actively looking at the financial impact and how we can do a straight to consumer push for Optum HSAs to react.

We're trying to offset member losses that roll off UHC plans and looking for a 401k custodian to partner with for small employers that drop UHC coverage.

We don't think CMS is going to promote any one single HSA provider.

Real problem is zero strategy, mismanagement, and infighting among SD's direct reports. Bigger fish to fry
