I’m a bit worried as a remote hire

From what I’m hearing, there will be no exceptions for people who were originally hired as remote. I simply can’t commute or work in the office for a variety of reasons - location and disability among them. That’s exactly why I sought a remote role in the first place, and my situation isn’t unique. I know people like me will probably be dealt with in phase 2, but it would be good to know what we can expect. It’s tough enough for others to find a job in this economy, doubly so for people in my position.

This sounds familiar. I am awaiting my fate when I return from LTD.

Girl you should’ve taken the severance package then.

So take the severance package. You have months and months to either get a new job or decide to take the package.

@aw this is why the enforcement of RTO for 100% remote workers is a complicated mess. I’m not trying to downplay a disability, but once you open these exceptions then you’ll have wrongful termination lawsuits from those in good health who feel the system is not in their favor. This is direct violation of an employment contract.

I just understand how they will deal with this realistically. CH spoke about this being a case by case basis just minutes before DE’s announcement. She knew.

With a disability your employment status should be protected. Still, you might have to fight for it. I suggest finding a good labor lawyer, at least for some initial consultation.

i would think that firing a disabled person for not doing something that is not possible for them due to their disability, especially after hiring them with that known, would be illegal and grounds for a lawsuit. but who knows considering the state of the country these days.

@OP you can apply for an accommodation request, it’s through HR just email ask HR about it.

Not sure if it will be the same for phase 2 but our group was told certain accommodations would be made for certain medical reasons so I’m sure if you have a disability they truly prevents you from going into the office they will have to honor that or I imagine you’d have a decent lawsuit?

@OP At this point you have to prepare for the worst case scenario. Don't delay. Do what you gotta do.
