"The transactions, which involved companies such as private equity firms Warburg Pincus and KKR (KKR), included deals that required the managed care giant to buy back the divestments at a higher price after several years, the people noted.

Amid UnitedHealth’s (NYSE:UNH) insistence that those deals should be completed by Dec. 31 and shouldn’t be publicized even after they are closed, those conditions implied to people familiar with the transactions that the company is leveraging the sales to meet its earnings targets."

Oh boy….. next up investor lawsuits for the big drop in share price. If they “intentionally” did these moves to cover up shrinking profits and increased expenses- this would be a direct violation of SEC regulations and any investors harmed would be able to potentially recoup losses. @a2 we did recently take out a $3b loan. Would have guessed it was to buy shares whenever it drops below $3xx but could be to fluff the profit.

The "oops we have no idea how to do business other than run HMOs so we're selling stuff off to shore up profit" ties in, too. Something like $3b of 2024 profit was from divestitures booked in Q4 according to bloomberg. Selling off Latin America is another $1b.

At some point we run out of things to sell.
