Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

stress isn’t just some HR thing, it’s a business risk

I read this article the other day & it really hit - basically says work stress isn’t just some HR thing, it’s a straight-up business risk that companies need to track like cash flow or security….

https://hbr.org/2025/06/employee-stress-is-a-business-risk-not-an-hr-problem

They built this thing called the Stress Risk Thermometer to measure how burnt out ppl are across the company. stress costs a ton - like $5.3 mil per 1k employees every year. Stuff like more sick days, people messing up compliance stuff (which can get real expensive), & a ton of folks quitting or just mentally checking out.. They even said stressed workers are 11x more likely to make mistakes that can get you fined or worse…

Execs say stress matters but then do nothing useful about it. Companies run some wellness week or whatever & call it a day. But this article’s saying you gotta fix the actual system - like workloads, deadlines, giving people space to speak up - otherwise stress keeps building & productivity tanks.

Tbh it makes sense. Can’t just throw yoga at people drowning in work. If leaders don’t handle it right, ppl will keep bouncing or burning out, & the biz takes the hit. Makes u think how much stress is silently wrecking stuff…

@cc don't make d-mb sh-t up. There is more than just p-rn on the Internet.

Keep in mind that a lot of people have checked out a long time ago for various reasons and aren't stressed at all. The are just collecting paychecks. For the people who are actually worried about their jobs Intel provides copious amounts of chronic stress.

I think I have it.

Pressure to excel at your job can be beneficial for some people who thrive on pressure. It can also have some issues OP mentions.

Free floating job stress just has OP’s issues without redeeming characteristics.

Layoffs can be a little of either depending on how they’re handled

I’m open to your better ideas.

Troll responses to an otherwise thought provoking topic

I don’t believe the replies come from humans….ie they lack any redeeming qualities that denote why humans should exist

I don’t believe @bf has access to a dictionary

@bf: great glad to hear you don’t have anything to contribute except your admissions of ignorance and orthogonal topics. I’m not OP btw

@a2: you are highlighting the issue. TSMC has economies of scale we lack. You may have heard of our effort to close that gap; it’s called IFS2

OP? This site is not just for you to throw out big words that you don’t understand. Great opportunity to just STFU

orthogonal doesn’t mean any of the things you list. So beyond your objection to precise terms, what do you think of the concept of avoiding stressors in the workplace that are not necessary to getting the job done? I’ll go strawman and explain the downvotes. Some people think pressure makes diamonds, that without pressure, command performance cannot be achieved. I like how Scott Adams put it, pressure makes garbage more compact

Love how people feel the need to sound superior by using the word "orthogonal" when what they mean is intersecting or adjacent or perpendicular or simply "relating to". Just stop, you sound like a dummbass!

There’s stuff orthogonal to workload that can mitigate this risk some

like not having layoffs constantly overhead

Intel employees don't work enough and 996 should be mandatory for the next 5 years until 18A is released.
