Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Assigned seats?

So we are required to be in the office 5 days a week but no assigned seats? Why not? It’s not as if we need to share since we are now required to be there every day. I understand the math didn’t work out to enough seats for all required to RTO in some locations such as Santa Clara, but in others not only are there enough desks but they are rebuilding many spaces to jam in like 30 to 40% more people in the same space. Just assign us a desk so we can be more comfortable knowing where we will be each day. Make sense? And do it thoughtfully, please. People leaders obviously should get office spaces with doors. Beyond that, assign by seniority and role.

Assigned seats are surely coming. If they do not, then use your voice to alert local leaders. Leaders from on high are not going to be micro focused on things like this, your local leaders should be, though.

@a2+1jpfkyzhb as did the Dublin office. We have our assigned seats. Not everyone has a seat yet and they have been told to stay remote.

The reason they don't assign seats is because:

  1. They don't have enough seats at all locations
  2. Seats would give you less stress and anxiety, knowing where to go everyday is a comfort they are denying you. They want employees miserable so they will quit and leadership doesn't have to pay a severance when you quit.

It's a layoff without payoff. It's miserable because they designed it to make you quit.

"Remember MD saying how efficient 30 seconds of human interaction is? "

MD is a grifter. He hasnt been relevant in anything for over 10y.
I would sooner listen to my pothead brother in-law for perspective than MD.

Because Dell is truly a sh!tty company. At this point there is absolutely no reason to respect any of them. It’s a paycheck until you find something better. Put your name on a cube and if someone STILL sits there ask them to leave. If they don’t then rip them out of the chair and blame Dell for creating a violent and unsafe workplace.

That’s exactly what I would do.

Remember MD saying how efficient 30 seconds of human interaction is? What about trying to find someone for that 30 seconds.

“I’m on the second floor. Where are you, I want to run something by you?”

I couldn’t find a seat - I’m in the cafeteria.

I’m wandering around the cafeteria where are you?

The cafeteria at 176.

Oh, I’m at 228

Oh, it’s snowing so don’t come over. What can I do for you?

I forgot…

This is the one area we lucked out on in the Utah office. Seems like the managers got together and coordinated so everyone has their own desk even though per Dell policy we don't officially have assigned seating.
