Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Am I the only one thinking positive about layoffs and severance package?

I’ve worked in the retail side of the business for 8 years. I’ve seen the shift of customer service to overseas, the inflated quotas and the lack of communication between higher ups and store level management. The company has changed its direction 180 degrees and shareholder profits and faith have shifted with it. For a lot of people the job search is what scares them. I personally see severance, unemployment and time with family around the holidays as an unexpected surprise to embrace. Some people are okay with complacency, but sometimes you just need a change.

I could see why you would think it’s a positive to get a separation bonus, versus be fired for unattainable quotas.

@a5 did you get the VSP during a layoff period, or just were offered one a while back?

Best thing that ever happened to me. But I have low overhead and got the VSP, so I can take a lower paying job

@a3 agreed that it’s awful in terms of having to find another job, but I for one would rather work somewhere that I’m valued more than the numbers in a stock price are.

Employers unfairly judge the people let go. It’s a mess, and the Orlando market will be flooded. This is absolutely awful

@a1 at least most of the people being let go will have the money to make it through the holidays and a lot of skills that translate to other companies. The thing a lot of people also have to realize is that job hunting is more than just applying online. It’s also about getting out into the community and making connections that can get you hired. When you’re laid off you have nothing but free time to strategize and come out better than where you got dumped off. That’s just my take on it

Good luck job hunting for the next 8+ months in this economy. Im sure people wouldn’t feel this way if right now was a pre covid economy
