Heard on a news channel that the actual TCS layoff number is about 1.5 - 3 lakh people? Can anyone confirm it?

@OP Based on what I have heard they have layed off people in massive numbers. A month back I had heard about
- 10% mandatory releases from each account.
- Delivery managers, programme managers, project managers were asked to identify and share a list of at least 10% in the account for fluidity.
- Some of them were indeed allocated to different accounts even though they were actively billable
- Many were called and asked to resign within next few minutes and get some compensation else they will be terminated on the spot with only minimal compensation.
- Hearing that this is across all locations within India and numbers are massive
- Also people getting released from an account aren't allowed to be allocated elsewhere. RMG actively prohibits reallocation and rather forwarded to HR to be terminated
So numbers ranging 150k to 300k may not be far from truth. Financial results for last quarter would be out soon, so it would be interesting to see what they tell.
@OP I heard on the news that it's only 2% of the workforce. That's normal. All businesses at one point or another reduce employment due to a number of reasons. One thing for sure, when a big corporation like TCS starts reducing staff, you know the economy is going down the hill even further. Save your money and spend it wisely. Getting another job won't be easy. Too much competition, not only against another human, but now against AI. Welcome to the future.
@a1 Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) had approximately 613,069 employees as of June 30, 2025
150000/613069=24.4% and 300000/613069=48.9%
Both percentage seem huge to me. Most of the time, the maximum any company would cut is 10% over a few years. Not sure if the news you are hearing is factual (correct).
So you're saying 150000 to 300000 people would be laid off? How many employees does the consulting company have?
