Happy day-after-Labor Day! Why send an email that says nothing of value but unsettled everyone who bothered to read it?

To call us an "American company" but shift every possible job across the pond is such a slap in the face

Some of us are obviously more American than others, SH.

@pw GOP Congress doesn't want single payer nor do they need to actively break up UHG, but everything they're doing will destroy the house of cards of middleman insurance-run/for-profit provided healthcare.

Medicaid patients are not switching to commercial en masse. Perhaps the sickest. Some of the largest employers in the USA - Walmart/Amazon have hundreds of thousands of employees on Medicaid. Assuming those booted from Medicaid suddenly "get a job" doesn't mean they get private insurance.

ACA destruction will de facto eliminate the individual mandate (Aflac, catastrophic plans, or medshare will be equivalent to insurance and advertise on TV). Add lower penalties and people will opt out. That's fewer UHC members. That's less revenue for competitors Optum sells to. Ultimately, it's fewer customers for providers Optum sells to.

The internal PR person/undiversified 32+ lifer needs to realize more and more people can see thru the BS... and that the admin/Congress has no time for propping up Blue State (MN) or worse (DC) companies.

@g3 they'll keep MA and the private commercial side will grow long term as people are booted from Medicaid. UHG/Optum have less Medicaid exposure. There's no appetite in Congress to break up UHG. If anything things will stabilize and as tariff emotions subside UHGs stock will rise with the rest.

@g3 PLEASE tell me those of us at Optum have an out! Huron, Oliver Wyman, even Gartner. I don't see Big4/MBB picking us up, but who knows.

Fascinating to wonder what Congress is recommending Steveo does next - this is the only way he'd let it go.

@g3 so you think layoffs coming in Medicare and Medicaid departments?

When will we find out?

The tough decision will be to unload the Medicare advantage and Medicaid parts of UHG and he will unload Optum and go back to what essentially is their bread and butter commercial ins and less scrutiny from the government.

@a5 Yeah, we are an American company that doesn't care about American employees or American customers. If they really did, they would stop outsourcing overseas and bring everything back to America. Our employees hate fixing everything the foreign workers sc--w up or they can't help us with. Our members and providers can't stand talking to them. And, no one wants our private health information over there. Our leaders need to just accept it, and put their money where their mouths are. If you truly want to be an American company, then put America FIRST. Period.
