Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

The real deal.

This is about as accurate as it gets. 3000 positions eliminated.. 2000 people impacted, the rest are open positions. About 50 DMG+, 500 KMG/LMG, the rest are EX/NE. almost all areas will be impacted, with biggest changes coming in Merch. The BU will now report to the enterprise Sr. buyer. Pyramids will be replaced by centers of excellence and the red cups will not make a come back. Monday and Tuesday are going go to be tough days. #oneteam

What do you think about contractors? Will contractors be let go to make room for full timers?

I have installed back doors in the system. If I'm laid off in gonna make sure that fun times commence for target. ;-)

area + PG + performance score will play a role? Maybe years of service because that impacted the Jan 2014 layoff. How much you work, how valuable you are, etc...they will probably have minimal effect because it's not tracked for HR and whoever to make the decision.

To Target BI&A - Non-Exempt are hourly team members who track their time, not contractors.

Everything on this blog indicates that Merch is where the giant bullseye is. But of course Merch is a broad term at Target. Can mean a lot of different teams. Honestly, to meet these kinds of layoff numbers predictions, I am guessing entire teams/roles will be eliminated. I don't think this is going to be a lower 10 exercise, picking off portions of teams. We will be left with "how's this or that going to work without this role or that team". The aftermath will be epic I think. I think the whole company will be working different...and I don't mean WFH either.

Great. I have a technical background and worked my way up to PG17 manager. I have shit load of work and so does my team. I will be sad if they compared me to those at my pay grade and above who just ride it easy and I got laid off along with them. I guess that's what the years of coffee statuses have done to this company. Whatever!

So any speculations as to where the other 1450 are coming from? I'm sure all over but any area more than others? Merch? Mpd?

What exactly is KMG/DMG/LMG? Obviously management, but what level?

For what it's worth, TTS is still hiring Engineers and a couple that were released during the Canada layoffs are already back at Target.

I think you're starting to see promotions because of position eliminations. For example, some of the merch SVPs became EVPs but had added responsibility.

That person who works 9:30-4:00,man, must be nice. I work at 7:45 and don't leave until 6:00 sometimes. But, I guess that's 9-4 mentality is most of the "managers" in merch.

Plus, if you read the initial post, if there will be 2000 let go, and approx 550 are DMG/KMG/LMG...then that leaves about 1500 for PGs 15 and lower. They will have the highest number it looks like, but then there are more at this level too. Guessing by percentage, it will be close to even?

Other than targeting DMG, KMG and Managers by title, guessing there is no "targeting" of levels below, but if a person happens to be at that level and is in a role that is going to be eliminated or downsized, then go you shall.

Any idea on the areas of focus for exempt layoffs? Are we talking 11/13 or lower as well?

Does Non Exempt means contractors ????

Let's just say say you happen to be a PG13 individual contributor in a non-merch pyramid. What are the chances of surviving? As good as anyone, I guess.

So true 76098! I've worked for the company for. 14 years and have never been able to get promoted higher than a PG11 - too busy working! I've never been so happy to be an underachiever ! My hope is that they truly do make cuts starting at the top rather than the status quo of burning the little guys. I currently have a 28 year old manager - just promoted to a 17. She has no actual projects assigned to her - her calendar consists of status meetings and her hours are 9:30ish to 4-ish. I'm not saying she doesn't deserve a job but really what do her duties have to do with selling diapers to melinnials?

This is by far the closest thing I've seen to reality. Unfortunately people don't want to accept that truth but merch and "managers by title" are going to be hit hard. Project Managers as well within TTS.

I wonder if the 700 "managers" in marketing will make the cut. Honestly, just a title to boost someone's ego up. And don't get me started on the party throwing teams and the "meeting" planners. All they do is hire companies to do the work for them.

I have heard a lot about how middle management was going to get hit hard. 1/4 of all cuts seems about even with current population of management (and managers of managers) vs ICs.
