Cobra and Pension - three questions

If I quit (not a surplus and not giving notice) on 7/8, am I entitled to the offer to continue health insurance via Cobra?

If so, would the deductible I have paid this year be applied to the same or would my Cobra start all over again?

How long does it take to receive the lump sum pension?

OP hang in there. Even if your Supervisor is an id--t. Just go in and do your thing and go home. Ultimately you probably will get the hook if you are 50+ old. While they wont admit to it, they are actively going after the older group of workers. Its cheaper to hire newbies and let them figure it out. I would wait them out and actively seek another option with another company if that is what you desire. COBRA would be my last choice of provider but they are an option if you need them. They are not cheap.

Your insurance plan stays exactly the same until the end of the year. During open enrollment you can make changes and it’s a Federal law you get 18 months cobra that is wayyyyy cheaper than any other insurance. My advice take the voluntary layoff. Good luck

OP: If your are "retirement age" you could get Medicare at age 65. Maybe you could hang on until then. Good luck

Do you have any idea how much COBRA costs? It's extremely expensive. Unless you're really sick and getting a lot of medical treatment you're better taking care of your own health until you get another job with benefits.

OP here. Not surplused at this time, (I wish!). I am non-union (management) status. Work environment has been toxic for over 1.5 years and tired of supervisor tactics of bullying. I am retirement age and considering resignation instead of waiting for a possible surplus.

Why would you quit and not take a sipp Vsipp / or termination pay if you were surplus?

$600 a month is very cheap for health insurance these days. Look at you total rewards and you can see what the company is paying for your healthcare....they are only allowed to charge and administrative fee on top of that for COBRA.

Cobra is very expensive. A single man I work with was surplussed and offered Cobra. It was around $600.00 per month. Check with Benefits to see if they will offer it to you if you resign.
