Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Either get on the bus or leave so no one else gets let go.

I have something to say to anyone bashing Target and Leadership. Ok. Time to get over it. Too many good people were let go and that sucks. You now have to make a choice, either accept the new reality and start contributing to right the ship or just leave. You don't have to work at Target. If you don't believe in the company or leadership, then leave and go somewhere else you think you might believe in. There are thousands of talented, motivated and driven team members left that want to see if we can rebuild a great company. If you don't want to be a part of that, please quit and maybe no more good people will have to be let go. I sympathize with the feeling of insecurity and the frustration with trying to rationalize what feels like a random pattern of decisions, but we have to get past it. It sucks and was handled incredibly poorly, but accept that there are no guarantees. If you can't do that, then please leave. I'd rather be working harder than not at all so either commit yourself or find somewhere else to go so that I can hire (or re-hire) someone deserving to replace you and keep building a new Target.

So glad my husband and some of his coworkers found better jobs over the summer. They saw this coming started looking. They were long timers who had high salaries so they knew they would not survive a layoff. They were right others just like them were let go while inexperienced people who were on corrective action stayed. My husband missed where he worked they were a well oiled machine that ran their department efficiently. Only a couple he knew survived the layoffs and they are working longer hours and are fearful they will be next. My husband is referring them to his company where jobs are plentiful and they don't have to worry about layoffs that are coming the next two years. Target was good to my husband for a while but the last two years it wasn't easy to work there. They didn't value long term employees who made a higher income. He saw them push so many out who were loyal and realized like with any company he is just a number so he went with a company that will at least compensate him for just being a number. Good luck to all who are laid off.

If you believe what people post here and stay far away from Target, that's the first good news I heard this week. If they can't find talent here, they will find them elsewhere. Maybe move jobs to SF or Bangslore and MN locals can celebrate losing more jobs here. Who cares that there is still 11.5k ppl at HQ?

I wouldnt count on hiring new talent. We outside the company are well aware of the s#%^ storm over there and want no part of it. You have a bit of a reputation locally now.

So OP, the words that all of our fellow team members heard "your position was eliminated and your services are no longer required" didn't hurt? If you heard them, they wouldn't hurt? I call BS. Words do hurt and 1700 of our friends were hurt. Go away....

Lots of people bashing OP because he/she wants to avoid another mass layoff due to remaining TM are not contributing. As someone who have been laid off 3 times, you should never feel safe. Target or any company pays you do a job and if you don't want to do the job, plenty of people will. No promises of lifetime employment, loyalty, etc...For those who were saved on Tuesday and continue to whine and act selfishly, I see a bright future for you. I just hope it's NOT with Target because you are affecting our livelihood. For those who were affected, I am sorry this happened to you. I wish you a speedy recovery as you explore other opportunities. Please take advantage of the many recruiting events in the coming weeks.

Aren't leaders supposed to have emotional intelligence? That sure seems to be lacking in this one. People process loss at their own pace and for many that is more than three days. OP, you have no right to judge what other people are feeling. If you were truly a leader rather than an ice queen you would have some compassion. I'm sure glad I'll never be working for you since you obviously don't understand people.

Thanks, but I'm not going anywhere until I'm laid off and anyone who has half a brain will do the same thing. Quit and get a new job when odds are I'll be laid off in a month anyway? Not until my ducks are in a row. Go back to your desk, EVP. Be glad it isn't your nuts on a chopping board...for now....... Oh wait, you'll be given millions of dollars to "pursue other interests" meanwhile husband and wife teams were both laid off this week and given the old "best of luck!" to pick up the pieces.

Give people a little more than 4 days to pull the rip cord. Trust me, people will leave but they need to get their affairs in order. Most are still in shock and uncertain what they want to do. I never planned on leaving Target. I loved my job and my team and I was never one to put down a company that I work for. What happened on Tuesday broke all trust and respect. You need to give people a little time before you start pointing the finger at them. Some who think they will leave may not, but their uncertainty and confusion came about by Target's actions not their own. The other thing you are not addressing is that the layoffs are NOT DONE. How can anyone concentrate when they could be sent packing at any time? Focus on your own job and let people grieve, process, digest and do what they have to do.

I think people realize they have 2 options. But they need time to digest the change that happened and figure out if there is still a place or even value for them to stay at Target.

Terrible to see this though the mindless MN hoarde has been piling into that company for years. It's a great strategy - graduate college, go into middle management at Target, feel super important for the next 5 years making 50k being a robot only to get your ass handed to you by faster/smarter/more innovative places. Minneapolis is not the heart of the universe - BB is getting flattened and rest assured so will TGT.

Condolences

Can I just point out that it's suspicious that the last two posts "I agree with the OP"and "Original Poster here" both have the exact same grammatical error - using "we're" for "were". Coincidence? Naw.

Original Poster here. I may be next, can't be sure. The people i know that we're let go were all hard workers and believed in the company and it is a terrible loss. This week was terrible, especially every time I walked past their empty desks. I want to hire but can't hire because we are/were bloated. I want to wallow in it as much as anyone, but it's not productive and only increases the likelihood that we'll need more layoffs and that one of those will be me. If venting here helps, then keep doing it.....direct it at me if it makes you feel better. On Monday, show up and do good work.

I agree with the OP. If you don't want to be here, quit so the she can re-hire some of the extremely talented people that we're let go. Take your bad attitude and go bring down some other organization

Funny that you are calling the OP entitled when she's the one that feels like we need to earn our keep, or at lest try to see if that helps. Who knows the method to the madness?

did you grow up entitled? Cause that's the vibe I'm getting from you, OP. I think you should leave Target and start a weight loss program because you're cold and lack empathy. Leaders have high EQ, which you seem to lack. Enjoy being alone for the rest of your life.

To the OP (81336)

Well, aren't you still on your high horse! Everyone handles this in their own way. Some of us remaining team members (and yes, I am one), had a lot of friends who were let go. It may take some of us a bit more time than you to trust our leaders right now. Yes, this may have had to happen, but the new world is still way out of focus and many of us remaining are still waiting to hear what we will be working on.

I had a manager like you once during my Target years. They called me on my way to my mothers funeral to get a status update and questioned me all the time when I asked for a day off. Hard to trust managers who don't have a broader view of life. By the way, I have been on projects and teams that I have really enjoyed and I wanted to stay at Target, it is just that there are so many unknowns now that it is harder to know if I will like what the future is.

So if you are ready to move on, then good for you. Maybe you didn't have a lot of close associates and fellow team members get asked to leave.

Some of us still need a little more time. I hope you can deal with that ~ or do you need a status report while we are still grieving?

Target today is in difficult times but the sky is not falling. Doesn't matter where you stay or go, layoffs can occur anywhere. For the rest of the 11k HQ employees, please leave if you don't like it here anymore. Why stay if you are so miserable? You can stick it to Target by leaving because you are irreplaceable.

I believe the OP is addressing current TMs. If you don't like being at Target anymore, leave and maybe those that were affected can be rehired to fill their positions. Not sure how anyone can misunderstood it as a shot at TMs that were laid off.

Wtf post is this - from human resources. There is no loyalty for those still at target. You could be next. This will continue for years to come. Retailing has changed. Remember there were no cuts at the executive ranks. Millions in bonus and stock options.

You're doing the hiring? I wonder if that responsibility should be rescinded from you, as Investors viewed target as bloated and ineffective. You seriously need to get off your high horse and realize you contributed to Target's downfall. #noob
