Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

More Layoffs in April

Another 1,000 jobs to be cut by April 7th. I am the original poster who broke the news on Jan 15th that Target Canada was closing ALL stores. I am also the original poster who broke the news that 2,000 jobs would be cut by March 4th. Look it up. There will be another 1,000 jobs cut at Target HQ no later than April 7th.

For the people posting that they want laid off...................GET OUT!!!!!!! I personally want to keep my job. I also think you folks that want to get laid off are just lazy, greedy slobs who want to sit on your butts and collect. Y'all are pathetic. I know people that got laid off that really wanted to keep their jobs and here you all are crying, take me, I want to go. Who is stopping you? The almighty dollar bill and your stupidity is what is stopping you. I really wish you would leave so the rest of us can continue.

Between the far fewer dmg+ leaders needing support and the fact that they are moving to a 2 leaders for every 1 admin model across the board, the admin group will lose over half of the TMs in that role. I'm sure the majority of exempt employees & leadership don't care--and I'd be shocked if we receive the same severance/outplacement as those already hit (although we are probably the ones who could benefit most from additional trainings). Those who survive the cuts will drown in work as they support at least 2 larger teams.

There are further cuts in the admin group.

There are no further cuts at this time. Who is left is safe.

Sorry about your losses.

Pretty sure cuts in HR weren't very deep.

The VP of HR said that HR would not be getting cut more for awhile since this round of layoffs cut HR pretty deep. From what I understand more layoffs may happen in departments under the CIO as those were not hit very hard because he is new and they wanted his input.

Well, between the deep cuts that are coming to admins company wide (which all admins are being told about this week via a really great, bs script) and the HR cuts that will come once all of the layoffs/reorgs have been finalized, it would seem the OP's estimate is likely close.

119, exactly! My thoughts exactly! The re-organization shared today was so insane. I thought it was a joke! MSs going to a new team that will solely be setting up items? Kill me kill me now.

Hey OP - can you you give yourself a code name so we can easily spot your tips? Should we call you CITIZENFOUR?

Please, please let it be me. The reorg that happened in my department today was bizarre, inane, asinine, hilarious, sad... I'm done.

If they don't get rid of the higher pay grades, then lay me off. The re-org we got today put clowns over a lot of good people.

Dear @80093: Those remaining will have no choice. Accept the wage or leave. On the spot.

Pick me pick me! I rather get 15 weeks of severance and look for something else than to stay here and take on more work for same pay! This isn't worth it. Those who got let go were the lucky ones. We were spared to work harder in the work factory.

@80093 - so that means VPs will be PG 14!? No way!

I am the original poster. Target wants to eliminate ALL PAY GRADES above 14. So all those TM's above 14 will be gone. The new Target thinks they can find anybody to fill those spots.

Well, that should cut the survivors relief short eh? Some very happy people just got a shock reading that post. Look, this reflects just how badly the headquarters had become overstaffed and out of touch. Here is a hint, "most places, a person has a real daily workload that requires doing", if you can go do this socializing thing as often as a Target, you should have know it was too good to be true!

How will anything get done? I will tell you. An interesting thing happens when a team is reduced by half; the work that NEEDS to get done actually gets done. There is little to no time for superfluous stakeholder meetings, coffee statuses, GTKY, and all the other nonsense you probably engage in. You may find that doing real actual work is far more rewarding than doing work about work.

Catalog information from prior reviews, training, exec profile, etc. before you get laid off and lose network access. That will make putting together an updated resume much easier.

do we know what areas and this doesn't include "open positions," correct? re-org has people wishing they were laid off instead. reduced headcount and increased workload. how will anything get done?

Regretfully, this is accurate information. There will be at least two more rounds of cuts, with the next one in early April. Once the current re-org is settled, they are going to looks at what areas can be cut further, as well as a bunch of HR people that will no longer be needed.

They are hiring for open positions now. You know, after laying off 1700 people.

Good! I hope I get the boot in April because this reorganizing crap makes no sense! I rather get laid off and get severance than stay and work 2-3 people's job with no pay increase!

Dear Anonymous80016: That is correct. If you survived the layoffs, start documenting everything NOW. There will be more layoffs no later than April 7th. Document e-mails, document phone calls, document office conversations...document everything. Your job is up to you!

So I'm assuming that if you're now moved to "the bench" in merchandising that the company is lining you up to be laid off. Could be a blessing in disguise since reorganization is a disaster.

Yep....sounds about right. So current team members, if you get a bad review after years of excellent ones....get an attorney and document everything! Start watching your back and do not trust anyone! Talk to no one!! Good luck.
