Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Average employee here

Like most of us are. My resume is not spectacular, I have no advanced knowledge in some currently sought after field. My skills and capabilities are however quite decent. I’m afraid that’s not enough anymore, especially in this tech job market and with the majority of companies moving jobs offshore. So where the heck am I supposed to find a frigging job once I’m booted or Intel completely breaks down?

@OP do not worry about being average. There are many average people do pretty well in their career. Just see your strength and play with that to win. Everyone has weekness. Focus to sharpen your skills keeping the goal in the head and hunger to reach there. I am sure you'll succeed.

I went from Intel to running a window company. Don’t limit yourself to the tech industry. You’d be surprised how in the Stone Age a lot of these companies are, and the simple things you learn at Intel are extremely valuable outside the tech world. 5s. Operational flows. Safety. That’s the one that actually got me the job. I walked through the plant and pointed out all the OSHA violations. And don’t limit yourself to the big corporations.

Average gets exported.
FWIW, I am in the same boat plus the normal adders - older straight male.

There are other jobs out there, just need to take your skills and see how they can be applied to other industries. I have done this in the past and will do again if needed. I have come in at a lower level position more then a few times and worked my way up.
