They are wiping out the tribe

Ageism is very real, regardless of legality. But the flip side is - as you get older, more experienced, most people expect to make more, which definitely makes it harder to find a job. I think an effective organization needs to balance experience with youth, new ideas. It’s clear that Dell is targeting older, high wage earners. It will be interesting to see how things go. New ideas is great, but Dell has always su-ked at process, it’s always been tribal knowledge. They are wiping out the tribe.

@3zox+1ulPpBri most companies understand that they are hiring HUMAN BEINGS. People who have families, have babies, have lives outside of work that sometime impact their work. Fire people who have a bad week, month, quarter? Every company has that right I suppose. But good luck finding human beings that don't have life intrude upon work every now and then.

I guess recently returned from maternity leave should not be expected to meet performance goals.. because of what ? are they special ? If you want equality of pay then dont expect special treatment.

GenX is in a short squeeze in Tech right now. Boomers and Early X putting the hurt on with the "Maximize Shareholder Value" play (along with some air cover from AI hype and Elon style org mayhem "resets") and Millennials and Gen Z are trying to move up the foodchain with a larger population than Gen X. The triple-witching here is High Tech (even FAANG+ companies) are now just technology companies with lower growth ahead but a backlog of expectation from Wall Street to keep the Tech Bo-m going. The net result will be more wealth transfer to the rich and depressed wages for everyone else.

@1pxx+1ulPpBri Yes, obviously there is constant turnover. And there were layoffs before too. But, at least where I was, the layoffs never targeted so many experienced people. In fact, my experience was the opposite. And never cuts nearly as deep as what is happening now. I've been gone for years now, but my friends who are still at Dell all say it is very different. It will be interesting to see over the next few years.
