Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Challenge accepted….LOL

A week ago during a team meeting a manager gave the rhetoric of do more with less, work longer etc…capped off with “if you don’t like, you can find a job somewhere else”.

He replied on the call with everyone to hear it, “challenge accepted, I quit. This is my two week notice. It can be sooner than that if you want. I haven’t been looking but I’ve saved up enough money to live off of for quite a while and I’m confident I can find another job.” Naturally there was an awkward silence with “we can talk about this at a later time”. Replied with “nothing to talk about really”.

Less than a week later “I’ve networked for quite a while over the years and I reached out and found something that fits me as good or better than here. So I’m still on point to quit” and he did that very thing, he left. Most thought he already had something locked in because its totally impossible to ever find a job that fast. In this case they were wrong. It turned out to be as simple or lucky however you want to look at it, as that.

I bet going forward the manager will not be so brazen with the “don’t like it leave” speech.

There are naysayers who are stuck or feel stuck. Misery loves company so that often tout that this is not possible. They want YOU to be stuck just like they are in a no win situation.
That its impossible to network outside of Citi (this is key) and impossible to leverage your contacts to find a new gig sooner rather than later. When you do find something, then you hear “well they will start laying off too, just wait you see” etc…

bottom line, don’t listen to the naysayers.

I’ve done the same at two other jobs before… and actually just did similar again. Boss said to find somewhere else if I wanted more money. I did. I’m gone. Serving out my last weeks now.

But hubby did something like this at another company many years ago. The main difference is that he had another job lined up and was going to turn in his notice the same day that his boss called a meeting to berate his staff. When his boss made the "if you don't like it then leave" statement, the hubby placed his badge on the table and left. HR got involved, boss got some training, and apparently is now a much better person to work for.

No, I will not be giving out names, location, which floor, cube number, email address, dates, times, zoom information, witnesses, a word by word transcript, or phone numbers used to call in, as proof that it happened. You either take my word for it or you don’t. Don’t care either way to be honest.
