Thread regarding Alphabet Inc. (Google) layoffs

Question on desire to transfer to a different team, GRAD review

I identified a team I would like to join once I complete 1 year anniversary at Google. I had an informational conversation with a team member and new manager.

Questions:

  1. Upon transferring to this new team, is my potential new manager going to speak on the phone with my current manager about my performance?
  2. Is the performance what I see available transparently in GRAD, or is that a confidential rating or comments available only to managers?

I am confident about my performance, but since I have seen a horror story when trying to transfer teams at given FAANG before, I would like to understand if managers may sc--w employees once they attempt to switch teams.

Honestly I didn't believe the claims that non-Googlers were trolling this board. Until now, that is.

@OP, you aren't a Googler for the reasons previously stated, and the fact that if you were considering a transfer you would know that you are expected to remain on your team for a minimum 18 months, not one year.

My one question is why? Why come here and pretend?

  1. Yes. Any good manager will talk with the previous and backchannel too. No one wants a diva or low performer that su-ks away energy from the team.
  1. Kinda. Your rating will be shared. Once transferred your manager could see past review info / details. Honestly this is a good thing so they can harness your strengths while addressing areas for improvement.

Good luck!

if you are concerned with your performance two things might happen:

  1. your manager will talk to the new hiring manager, you will not be allowed to transfer and later one you will be fired
  2. because you have such poor performance they will make you a leader!! Maybe the CEO or VP or director!

Don't Google employees use AI to communicate? After solving all those Leetcode questions to get in, they must have built some communication tool we cannot imagine. Maybe its GVC.

That is complete BS of course people talk on the phone especially about sensitive things that they don’t want in writing

Then you clearly don't know what a "GVC" or an "in person" meeting is.

Be gone, troll.

This is just more evidence that there are plenty of non-Googlers are lurking here pretending they are Googlers.

If you really had been here a year, you would know that Googlers communicate over email, chat, GVC and in person. No one is going old school with a phone.

Get off this board.
