Thread regarding VMware layoffs

The biggest sign the deal is NOT CLOSING tomorrow is vmware canceling the all hands.

The deal is definitely delayed, not closing tomorrow.
Actually, it will never close. It's over.
There is no other explanation why vmware cancelled the company wide all hands meeting at the very last moment without any valid reason.
They thought China approval would have received and it was supposed to be the farewell party.
After China approval they will need 48 hours to a week more to complete the process of closure.
Folks, don't worry. Nothing is happening tomorrow. No layoff. Business as usual.
BC/VMW joint announcement will come on tuesday.

Glad the all hands was canceled. What purpose would it have served? Did you really want to see Betsy laughing and/or crying again? Do you think Raghu would give a clear answer on the closing status?

"That's not true. The email said access will be given in near future."

The post you disagreed with was 100% accurate. But at the same time, it means absolutely nothing. The access was to material that was finalized months ago. As for the clinics, they can easily be rescheduled.

@OP - You say that and somehow the stock closes at 142.52, 2 cents away from the agreed price

"Also, access to the transition portal was granted AFTER the all hands was canceled."

"The all hands was cancelled because Hock couldn’t make it! He was in a meeting in DC, talking to the Chinese minister of foreign affairs. Last minute trip."
How do you know that?

I know that these are just data points, but there are IT transition help sessions scheduled for every center starting at 8:30 a.m. local time on 11/1. Also, access to the transition portal was granted AFTER the all hands was canceled. I mean, I know the hoppium level is high right now, but let's not get too stoned on it.

Outside date is still November 27th. NLT October 30th was just a goal.

If the deal doesn’t go through there is no future for vmware.
You should know that there is a plan B that they worked on it for a long time and the Plan B wont have a nice outcome for most of the vmware employees.
If there is a delay why they terminated so many of our contractors last Friday?

The Chinese already got more than what they wanted and they agreed to give conditional approval. But now they are blocking simply as retaliation to chip regulation, revenge against US semi-conductor companies. Its going to have the same fate as Intel/Tower, Qcom/NXP deals.

I don't think they'll give up right away. More likely, there will be several delays first.
Tuesday the election deadline will probably get extended again and we'll be in the same mode we were a month ago, more or less. Just waiting. Maybe the Chinese will get what they want and the deal will still close. Maybe not. Impossible to tell. But I think it has to start with a delay first.
