The area model was working for us, but these cuts at the ground level are deep, it's going to be a challenge to maintain the network at that same level. Most of the people I saw let go bled magenta pride, loved what they did, loved our customers and took pride in their work. That's going to be hard to replace that with the outsourcing of more and more work. We used to have some core key values to guage our actions against as a company to evaluate if we were staying true to the ideals of what our leadership once thought would make us successful and differentiate us from the others as the uncarrier. They have since been lost in a merger and also with founding senior management turnover that has changed us from customer driven to investor driven. We have turned to the dark side and become what we hated most....We ARE the carrier.

Agree with what Barack is saying. The area model is a disaster. Not enough personnel in certain areas and now with the layoffs there is no way they are going to be able to run this system. Can’t imagine how bad disaster recovery will be. The people left are going to be run into the ground more than they already are.

I'm in the central, and we've had it ~ 6 months now. I'm doing the exact same things as before. I just have 2 bosses now.

Instead of having markets, the area model encompasses several markets. There are 4 areas in the central region which contains around 22 markets.

The Area model is the most id--tic idea ever devised within T-Mobile. They implemented it in the Central Region and it’s total chaos. Nobody knows what they’re supposed to do and when asked for details the people who are “leading” it don’t have an answer. It’s like Obamacare; let’s just push it through and figure it out afterwards.

For now, at least in the South, Area team is limited to Switch and RF Design.

FOPS and RF performance remain in individual markets.

Area model is 3 or so markets sharing resources like switch, dev and rf. Almost like one big market.

The Area Model is the new way T-Mobile is trying to cluster their cell sites and their network team (RF,SWOPS,FOPS, ETC). Previously you had multiple markets in a state. For example, in Florida you could have the major cities as individual markets but now they have joined up all the individual markets as one and the concern is several duplicate roles.
