Everyone is an engineer. Seniority determined by Levels which are not publicly visible.
In phonebook, office location, department and projects. No reporting chain and size of the empire.
95% toxicity will disappear overnight.

Yes. Q needs to morph into a flat organization. But chances of that happening are slim. The status collectors and status presenters have a death grip on the processes. Their sole way of surviving is to ensure that their hierarchy gives them the data and they keep their organization isolated from anyone above them. Been there, seen that, suffered it, moved on (twice).
this has been talked of since 2015 at least. fact nothing happened so far indicates things won't change. Reason i believe is It does not make any difference to the company bottom line and shareholder value. so zero neurons on it.
@wwx+1oYNsMEU clearly this is triggering you. Status collector.
Apple has 3 levels of meetings before presenting something to VP who may have another 2 levels and iterations before presenting to SVP or Cook.
@nog+1oYNsMEU Getting rid of levels for individual contributors won’t change the “status collector” issue some people here think is such a problem. You’ll still need managers and those managers will need to report to someone who will need to report to someone else. There will always be hierarchy and the need for people to report the status of their team and projects to people higher up. Even CEOs are status collectors as they have to report to their bosses, the board of directors.
@xby, is OP’s plan layoff info?
Every company: Google , apple, nvidia, mediatek, intel does this , its only in Qualcomm that we see this sh---y hierarchies, only the manager, and the individual himself should be able to see the title, like IC 3,4,5,6 etc everyone should have a functional title like : system, engineer, display engineer, Power performance engineer, this will get rid of a lot of toxicity and prejudice
+10000 to OP for this post
@esd I don't think 2 of you should discuss. Rather graduate from middle school as well. This site has enough toxicity already and actual layoff info is drowned out
@OP+1oYNsMEU not going to happen. Status collectors are not going to let it happen. They will hold on like parasites until they su-k the company's life blood dry.
Status collectors know they cannot and will not be hired by other companies.
@dul+1oYNsMEU, graduate middle school and then we can talk about how the real world works
@@yfk+1oYNsMEU yes LOL! F#$% the direction of status collectors that want me to work on an OEM feature that brings in $'s in revenue. I'd rather refactor some code using latest c++ standards, confuse everyone and show how smart I am!
You are clueless!
That’s about the most clueless idea I’ve ever heard. So what, we all just work on whatever we want to work on? No one is going to drive the direction of the company and individual projects that will actually make us money?
Sounds OK in theory, but people won't magically forget previous titles. Instead of overnight, this will take years to move the needle.
