“Younger workers are just chomping at the bit to come play musical RTO cubicles too. Great management. I honestly don't know a single person under 35 who works for us and can't imagine why any young person would.”

Also a young technical worker here.
Can’t wait to leave, Stankey is an id--t and isn’t doing anything to attract young workers or my peers, everyone with any talent thinks T is a dinosaur, out of touch, legacy joke with horrible top down boomer management.
RTO has only made that perception worse.

I agree. EMPLOYEE 2Q TOWN HALL was deeply insulting to those over 50 who have dedicated most of their adult lives to the company. Yes, we have received a paycheck, but we bet our FUTURE on the company and believed all the cr-p about "You Matter" when we obviously don't. And then he has the nerve to tell the woman at the end who asked what he would say to the people worn out from all of this was that no one is an indentured servant. No one wants the highly edited version, folks. We heard what we heard.

Does anyone have an exact quote? Anyone filed a formal complaint, either internally or externally? Hard to believe JS said the quiet part out loud. But explains why the >10K layoffs this year targeted those of us over 50.

In the 2Q2023 earnings call Stankey said, “We don’t need all these old people. We need young people with new ideas.” In a subsequent video he said, “AT&T doesn’t need people who know how to use an abacus.”

Can we get an exact quote? My jaw dropped when he said it. I bet his lawyers squirmed and cringed. We need this documented. It's blatant evidence of ageism from the CEO.

I guess that explains the exodus from HR that's been showing up in email over the last few days.

The employee call included him, Desroches, McElfresh and Arnoldi on stage.

He has targeted people over 50 for over 10 - 15 years. seen it first hand and left before it happened to me. stank is a pos and management lies.

anybody out of college or looking for job should run far far far far away from att. wish I never worked there and would never go back. would go back to the other companies I worked and still keep in touch with them but I dropped all contacts at the cesspool att.

so please any youngsters out there looking for a job do not work at att.

The fact that they were calling folks out by name when responding to the questions was kinda shocking.

I am below 35 and I am here. Looking for a new job though.

It’s funny that they’ve been laying off every quarter for the last 15-20 years by inverse seniority, which has essentially gotten rid of all the younger employees. There’s almost no one left that has less than twenty years of service(represented employees). Randy and Stinky spent all that time firing all the younger employees and now they’re baffled as to why there’s no one left under 40. The “leadership” at this company is a total clown show.

I literally could not believe my ears when I heard him say we needed younger workers. I suspected this all along but to hear him so intentionally state it was unreal. I’m sure they’ll spin (ignore) this the same way they did his comments about “generous relo packages”.

And the lawyer responded??

… Already called an attorney. I cannot believe what I heard on that call. Stankey wants a younger workforce, experience doesn't matter, and age was a factor in determining your future with AT&T?! Everyone heard him say it OUT LOUD. Your age will be used either for or against your employment status. Anyone who loses their job and is over 40 will have a huge lawsuit against the company. The CEO of AT&T admitted to age discrimination on a company level for making business decisions. He better get out the checkbook. This is going to cost him more than one of his crazy acquisitions.

Interesting because for prior years emails were distributed and specifically addressed as To: “Target Audience” from A.S…. How many left to preserve HSA as well as Pre65 medical after having vacation days taken from them specifically to give to younger employees additional time off.

Cell phones. These little cameras. Each cell phone has one with one with many gigs of memory. They recorded you John Stankey.

He said he didn’t like employeeing older people, however the retirement age in the USA is 66. Don’t forget that it was him that did away with retiree healthcare virtually forcing us to work till Medicare kicks in.

Nothing bad was said. Stankey was just honest about how many hub office floors in Atlanta and Dallas look like they should be named “Shady Pines” or “Green Pastures”.

How do we show a video here genius?

He went in about how the workforce age is not in line with the target demographic age, when he was chiming in about layoffs basically. I didn’t record it. They usually post these up the next day. I am doubtful this one will be. I am guessing he has already been made aware of his faux pas.
