Thread regarding Western Digital Corp. layoffs

We knew layoffs were probably gonna happen

We are a tech company so we knew layoffs were probably gonna happen. No one can consider themself safe, not the company and not the employees. It's important to keep your resume updated and ready to go. Take into account that lots of people are looking for jobs too, so make sure you do your absolute best to stand out from the crowd.

"We are a tech company so we knew layoffs were probably gonna happen." the premise is flawed. All tech companies are doing layoffs? All?

Good luck on finding a new job given that what you do is most likely irrelevant for any other industry. Do what others have successfully done, study something that has a future and get a job in that. Spin rust or flash- you are only interested to a few players. You made a bad decision once by going into this field. Don't repeat the same bad decision.

What do you mean probably going to happen? Have you been living under a rock? WD does layoffs all year long. HR must be exhausted with all of the putting together of packages! So fun being in a company that is managing decline vs growth. Managing decline means constant layoffs to hit the #'s.

It's not hard to understand: Senior employees had to go because they spoke up as WD core was being cut to pay for executive bonuses.

Dont ask for pity when your turn comes If you sat quietly when it happened to others.

So I assume 5/24 is a must but 8/16 was not planned at this point.

If the second half doesn't turn around, we can happily keep ACR, 401K, and STI suspended or cut spending, more layoffs in the second half are not out of the question.

Why would any intelligent person say there are going to be layoffs in August.? What?

Wait, in addition to 5/24, there is going to have another round on 8/16? Why not just do it at once instead of keep burning?

May 24 / August 16. I don't have anything bad to say. We just have to move on and forget about WD. They don't want us? Fine! Let's find our worth.

According to CEO, the RIF is for matching work force with business need during downturn. That sound a legit business decision. But I am not quite understand the logic of getting rid of senior engineers first then replace with new blood.

When dealing with RIF scale & date, the core value of Agile transparency was gone.

In 2018 they did layoffs, and let go of good people. Then they replaced them with incompetent people. The managers that made those decisions as well as the people who they hired to replace them are all gone now. Corporate needs to understand that when they let go of folks only to replace them later, they are basically just f*cking themselves.

Layoffs will NOT happen if the teams are diverse enough - diversity is our strength.
