Yeah pretty much. I hated the place. Air, traffic, dullards, the lot.
It’s all an asymmetric bet. Few hundred K, few million upside maybe versus absorption barrier downside risks. It’s a form of the Gambler’s fallacy. And not least the unpleasant, boring and culturally missing country.
Driving was a nightmare. Mo--ns driving without regard for other drivers and their own safety.
Air quality bad pretty much throughout middle east, Asia, and africa.
Our depth used offer face masks for the shamal days
I am also selective about outdoor exercise. Time it to less polluted days.
While the physical environment has always been toxic, the work culture has BECOME toxic. Anyone talking to an Expat the left Aramco 10 - 15 years ago would learn the former, but probably not the latter.
Today is only moderate, which means I can actually go for a run outdoors…
Usually it’s 130-150, or 20X WHO safe limits.
It comes with the territory - Dhahran is a sh11thole in a dull, dirty part of the world. Take your coin, collect, then leave.
People coming here ought to know this… if they fail to do due diligence well that’s their fault!
Already a post on this, why don't you just comment? Hmm, seen this before. Somebody comes up with an idea, another one tries to take the credit lol.
Sheeesh…we get it…air quality is bad…. Move on…
