Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Laid off on H1B

Is anyone on same boat? Can you please let me know how much time were you given or termination date ? 2 weeks? I heard Silicon Valley firms are giving options for late termination date by 2 months so that you have severance as part of payroll cycles? Trying to buy time here

with lowest unemployment rate you say lots of US Citizens are unemployed ? LOL...ya if you want to work at McDonald's or Burger King there are plenty of jobs. If you are in tech or sales, ya, you're competing with alot of unemployed US tech and sales workers at this point. American workers should be at the top of the candidate list for new jobs. Have you seen the list of companies in high tech laying off. You must be a Brandon lover just dying to put americans last.

Depends on your role and type of access. Dell usually gives you 2 weeks. Your 60 day cycle starts next day after your two weeks.

People have a life - and for indian - they often live entire life on H1B and never see the green-card , every step of the way risking deportation at 60-days notice. I do not believe any us citizen realizes that . Imagine kids of that work-immigrant that perhaps are even born here - they may not even speak other than English , go to the school with your children and be friends - when they learn they need to pack and leave everything behind in 60-days.

I am sorry for all of them. I wish I could help more.

@OP - find a job - any job and wait till the storm passes

Interested to know what you did for Dell that they needed to get a H1B person. I'm going to take a wild guess that anyone could do the job... Dell just wanted to save a buck and take advantage of the system.

For the original poster, while you are currently still a Dell employee reach out to the Dell legal team that provided you support for your H1B. They should be able to give you details on timelines and obligations.

A few years ago I think you had 60 days from termination date to either secure new employment or leave the country - other restrictions were in place. Be sure to find out your actual obligations from a reliable source (not me), messing this up can cause you much grief with the US government.
