Thread regarding Alphabet Inc. (Google) layoffs

MY Prediction of 22k layoffs AND Google's Layoff roadmap

On Dec 9, I gave you all a prediction of 22,000 cuts ... some of you laughed ....

12 days ago, I gave you the Google layoff Roadmap.

and now, get ready for round 2.0 in 2023. You see, some of you Google newbies have yet to understand that companies that layoff for the first time in their history, tend to make sure every other quarter, history repeats itself.

2023 is almost over, still nowhere near 22,000 layoffs.

This prediction has been proven wrong.

So now you are retrospectively calling it a prediction. But at the time, you misled readers into believing you have inside information. And, guess what, you don't (which I knew all along).

Except Google's first time layoffs were in 2008. And we haven't had 30 rounds of layoffs in history.

oh, be patient ...... those additional rounds are coming soon. You see, oh naive one .... even in 2001 and 2002, when 2M+ employees worldwide were laid off, most companies did not have more than 60k employees ..... Google has 180k+ .... I'll let this one sink in

Great work citing Amazon's plans. Maybe you should have posted that to the Amazon board.

"by law, when a role is eliminated through a layoff, it cannot become open for a 6 month period"

  • > Not quite right. The U.S. Department of Labor does not technically identify a time frame for when you can rehire for a laid-off position. What it does do is open you up for wrongful termination claims, like age discrimination.
  • > Do you really think the lawyers at Google and Amazon don't know how to skirt legal issues?

"Layoffs continue until Opex is at a level where shareholders or investors are happy. Layoff to swap out most of high paying and long tenured workforce for the lower paying resources to reduce Opex. See some of our old jobs in the job openings."

Layoffs continue until Opex is at a level where shareholders or investors are happy. Layoff to swap out most of high paying and long tenured workforce for the lower paying resources to reduce Opex. See some of our old jobs in the job openings.

The trend of lowering cost has already started.

oh yes, the infamous layoff of 200 employees. Yes, that was massive, all 200 of them. The second floor of building 67.

clearly you're not a troll, but rather a newbie to the tech world.

@OP+1l0mru92 Is there any breakdown of what percentages of the layoffs are in each department? Do you think there are some departments that are more likely to have layoffs than others next time?

They are also buying cloud growth with promotions and discounts, no wonder margins keep coming down. Their only growth is still a big cash burn, AWS and Azure way ahead.

Shocking slowdown to +1% rev growth (+6% last Q), WTF 😳? Cloud +32% 👍, but down from +38% last Q. YouTube, Search, Ad Network, Services: All shrinking 😵! Margin fell from 29% to 24%. WTF is going on & how will this turn? Still a monopoly yes, but what’s in it for the Wall Street?

Because of pressure on Sundar by Wallstreet? They demanded 22K layoff?
