Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

Scared straight - less knowledgeable people, more layoffs in 2023?

I've been here a few years and have seen my work getting more and more difficult because of less knowledgeable people around. The experts knew how things work and helped all of us to accomplish our tasks quickly. Now that there's less of them and people that do the work, it takes us more time to research and learn and in the meanwhile work stacks up.

I've seen knowledge and talents laid off at all areas of the company:

  • customer advocates are no more
  • field people were laid off like flies
  • our hardware people, who also knows the customer configuration and sw workloads were ditched in favor of IBM
  • our support people are all newbies from Mexico
  • the areas experts in engineering are all gone

It's true many of these people were database and system experts and we are now in the cloud. But we were also told that the the heart of our cloud offering is the database. So I'm scared if we will be able to deliver what the customer needs in 2023 and future. I've seen it before where it snowball into a failed operation and leads to more layoffs.

And yes, I'm learning and doing all I can to help us succeed without questioning management. They can say all they want but what I feel, no one can change.

Many are leaving in next few weeks. Many reasons to be concerned because more knowledge out the door and we end up hiring newbies.

Great place for inclusiveness, activism, and training to prepare for next job but no future for real product, appreciation from management, or career.

not too many people left and now the flagship product is in trouble with growing pain

management got rid of the executive of the new product and the most senior technical engineer is on part time to escape the circus

we see it all these years but it is coming to ahead now

sad

This happened today. Customer problem and no one competent around left after recent layoffs to help so we went in circle.
