Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Been praying to be laid off for the last five rounds

Every time I survived. The only reason I stay is because I refuse to leave severance on the table after spending almost two decades here. The way it's been going, I'll retire before they lay me off, with my luck.

I was let go in June 2023. It was a weight lifted from chest. Feels so good to be retired.

@OP Now I lay me down to sleep. I pray that Dan can hear me weep. If I should get layed off before I wake. I’ll get a new job for goodness sake.

Y’all this is so out of touch, there’s just as many people praying they don’t. Someone needs to play matchmaker with the two sides.

happened to me, then they had the last VSP a few months later. Had to sue since others were told to hang out eventhough they had announced retirement. Settled out of court

@a8 agree with everything except the feeling guilty part. I see guys waiting for years for an offer that never comes, then say to themselves they should have just left earlier. Can’t get back time, Father Time never loses.

I volunteered three weeks before the RIF in November because I had finally reached Medicare age and could now afford to do it. I did not get chosen and every month since then the AD kept saying why would anyone leave if they can get a severance package. Every month since November he would tell me that he has the inside track on another RIF coming up. 1st it was something is going to happen 1st quarter, next it was something is going to happen early in the 2nd quarter. Finally I just decided to go ahead and retire. I really enjoyed the job and the people I worked with. I felt a little guilty leaving because I knew that they would not backfill my position, and that me leaving was going to increase the workload for my peers. The bottom line to all of this is that now i realize just how toxic the work place had become at Verizon. My health is improving, My sleep is wonderful and I am again doing the things that I enjoy. Bottom line - I should have quit a year ago! Life is very good on the other side of Verizon!

Anyone who volunteers shouldn't get severance. If you want to leave then leave. The fact that you are hoping for a payout proves you don't really want to go, you just want a check for doing nothing.
