Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

Well… maybe there’s gonna be a positive?

If Abby is making us go into the office every day, then, maybe that’ll let people not have to go into the office sometimes? Like if someone has to see a doctor, they can be allowed to work from home that day? Eventually, maybe they’ll realize they NEED to give remote work exceptions, like to people who are primary caretakers or have illnesses?

Just a wishful thought. Probably not gonna happen. I don’t know, man.

The policy really isn’t as strict as people managers want you to think. Yes you can work from home one day. Just don’t make it a trend

@OP do your own research, or ChatGPT can answer to the number of PTOs Fidelity gives vs rest of financial services competitive. Most companies are moving away from sick days separate from vacation days and you can research the scam that is unlimited PTOs.

The PTO policies covers my kids trip to doctors when I need a full day for a stomach bug and can't /don't want to juggle the vomit and zoom. and for 2 hours in the afternoon it is not REQUIRED to take a PTO. Your manager would be too scared to be suit to violate published PTO policy so I don't understand your comments. The criteria that got people fired is weeks and week of missing office time or badging in for an hour .... not taking a sick day and forgetting to enter a PTO. I wish they would publish the criteria but it would change because a minute later folks will start gaming it and complaining about it anyway.

Things will not go back to the way they were before COVID because HR has no incentive to relax. I was puzzled why they're so keen on playing truancy officer but it's guaranteed funding and job roles for HR. They're never going to relax on RTO because being high strung about it is how they keep their friends employed in their fake email jobs.

Going into the office everyday your home water, heating/AC, electricity, cost of toilet and other paper products will be reduced. You will get more exercise and Vitamin D from the sun. You can drink Fidelity coffee for free and scavenger food from meeting rooms. Shower at the gym and save costs there. You are winning and Abbie is losing.

People are allowed to take incidental medical leave to handle appointments. People can't always get an early morning or late in the day appointment to see specialists. I can't wait to see what happens when someone is denied a bonus over this and they sue.

No, it's not going to happen. It will be exactly as it is now with the tracking and reporting except it will be based on 4 weeks per month instead of 2. You will continue to badge in and badge out and they will continue to track your attendance. They will ask you to log days out of office in Workday, that you didn't come into the office for either business reasons (ie travel to offsite etc) or personal reasons (sick, dr. appointment etc). They will continue to report on this looking for patterns and holding you to some unknown criteria. They won't tell you what it is so that you will be as obedient as possible out of fear. They will continue to discipline based on your attendance through bonus impact, PIP or firing you. This is what they do today and I wouldn't expect this to change except it will be based on 4 weeks instead of 2. Maybe the thresholds will change as far as who gets disciplined but you'll never know.

Perhaps some day in the future when the switch to full time RTO is a distant memory and people have been become numb and beaten down to the point where they've given up all hope on remote working and are conditioned to just accept it. Right now though the wounds are still fresh and you still have coffee badger's and angry employees so they have to continue to do this to ensure obedience. Maybe eventually they'll loosen up a little and it will be something like it was pre-covid. I wouldn't be surprised if it takes several years to get there, if ever. Thankfully i'll be long gone by then.
