Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Housecalls

Any insight regarding Housecalls layoffs? After the meeting in January, I’m still nervous about being fired at any moment but work seems good and my county assignments are mapped until until September. We have even been given incentive visit information.

@16d they will take this so called freedom and flexibility away pretty soon. There are developments in the pipeline and existing “safety” programs that are targeting exactly that. They would shuttle you 24/7 if they could to knock on doors and force these visits.

@zt CB is just a terrible leader. I have no idea how she ever got that job. It’s no wonder why HC is such a mess. Want to see change? Get her out of there.

@109 some folks working in urban markets share that they are being literally driven by like a chaperone or something. It was mandatory from what I hear. Supposedly a safety program, but the driver has to stay in the car. Don’t think it helps much from safety standpoint. Probably “big brother” type of sh—t.

@106 I think so too. Aren’t they doing a trial with dragon dictation in some states? Just more ways to push and make us faster to just keep seeing more people for them. It’s going to be work work work here coming up…

@103 I have a feeling that flexibility will be significantly reduced in a very near future.

@zt same. I think most of us are here because the schedule, but it’s really been going downhill the last few years…I’d love a European vacation but not happening on my 1% raise

@y6 I would LOVE CB to ride along, perch on a little stool in the worst of the worst non-compliant DSNP houses and do a DRE and then ALL the labs. And THEN the NP should sit in the car with her and make her sit and watch and see how long it takes to check off all the boxes on the slow piece of $hit laptop we have and THEN drive 30 minutes to the next house. Would love love love to see it.

INSTEAD CB has the ba--s to talk about her EUROPEAN vacation literally weeks after a pretty massive Housecalls layoff during a monthly meeting. Just....stunning. Oh and THEN we get an interview with a Texas Housecalls NP about pushing her dang safety button because she went out in the ICE storm to work and got stuck because Housecalls leaders in TX were requiring NPs to use their own PTO if they stayed home safe at work. Please tell me again how you value our safety?

Gawd I miss Kristy Duffey. If I didn't need a flexible job to let me take care of an elderly relative I would be so gone.

@z1 Interpreter visits, regularly scheduled 2-3 DREs plus ton of other tests, ridiculous mapping.

@yv remember when interpreter visits counted as 2, so you could actually have time in the day. Miss that

@y6 and 28 day rescheduling….they took everything away

What is the visit per day? How many?

@p4 yup exactly. Never seems like area is taken into consideration, even though us going into the worst neighborhoods are also running into safety risks every day. And with the new visit threshold and visits per day metrics is basically impossible to even get a reward at the end of the month.

@ny And unfortunately there is very little one can do about it. They can easily assign an APC to a very challenging area with inherently low completion rates. In the end, they will use it punitively against APC to justify write up, CAP, PIP, whatever. Management into voluntary attrition.

@hc I do think they are going to continue to be more strict and slam on metrics even more. They want to milk as much as possible from as little APCs as possible to maximize their benefits.
I think housecalls is safe for now, until they make stricter metrics and therefore easier to lay anyone off that they need to when that time comes.
As far as the housecalls program, it’s been around for a decade but hard to say how much longer it might exist.

@hc Agreed. Ever heard of a chaperone program? We have it in DC. There goes the flexibility part.

Housecalls is a joke. The flexibility is unmatched but at what expense? Constantly checking layoff sites to see if you’re next. Constantly worrying about your job security. At this point being laid off would be welcome. Definitely keeping my eyes open for another opportunity because I don’t see it being around for as long as we think

@b0 I agree. If there is another “warning” meeting first quarter next year start to worry. The purpose of those meeting is natural attrition to reduce how many severance packages they need to pay. Stay til the bitter end to get yours.

@OP So what are you worried about based on the facts that you yourself laid out?! I don’t known whether this is your first “corporate healthcare” job, but things are never stable in organizations like this. It just needs to accepted. To alleviate some of your concerns: things should be stable for now. Contracts finalized, RIFs already occurred, goals/priorities set. If anything for HC specifically probably early next year.
