Slackers

In a very small team somebody always ends up carrying the dead weight because the release dates do not move. I carried a complete slacker for a long time... everybody knew he was a slacker too mgmt t knew entire team knew and othing changed.

the problem is that in small teams, one person not pulling their weight does not just stay their problem it spills into everyone else’s life. Alaways longer hours and more stress. Missed time with family because of this retart. Burnout + resentment. And because the deadlines are real the relible people end up absorbing the damage while the slacker just keeps floating along. What made things worse was all the 2ndary drama and problems that came with this bozo . It stopped being just a work issue and started causing actual life stress outside work - so you know how that goes.... And after enough time u stop feeling angry and just start feeling exhausted that everyone can clearly see the problem but nobody with authority is willing to deal with it.

I got lucky as he left just about three years into this.

Eh.

Don't cover for slackers.
Put them on blast: to their face, to your boss, to anyone who should know, and whose job it is to manage the effects of a slacker's slacking.

Call a meeting with your team and boss. In that meeting, just straight up tell the slacker to their face, in front of everyone, calmly and succinctly, while listing out clear examples of what they're doing/not doing which is dragging the team down/causing you to be overloaded/time-su-ked, etc. Be professional, but firm. Tell the slacker what you need from them to change, so the workload is more fairly distributed. Ask them if they have any suggestions on how to improve the team's work. Let your boss know that you really appreciate their input in getting things back on track.

Fu*k'em if they can't or won't do their jobs.
You should not feel obligated to pick up the slack for those who don't think twice about dumping their responsibilities onto you and others, just because they are either too lazy or ill-equipped or just plain inept to deliver on what they are being paid to handle.

You're not paid to do the slacker's job, manage the slacker, or to manage your boss.
Don't take that burden onto yourself.
Give it back to them when they try to unload it onto you.
