Thread regarding Saudi Aramco layoffs

I don’t usually post stuff like this, but I wish someone had been honest with me before I joined, so here it is.

The culture here is honestly rough. There’s a lot of talk about “teamwork” and “growth,” but day to day it just feels disorganized and reactive. Communication is all over the place, expectations change constantly, and somehow everything is always urgent. It gets exhausting fast. Backstabbing is very common.

The bigger issue, though, is the pay. For the workload and stress level, it’s just not worth it. People are stretched thin, doing way more than what they were hired for, and the compensation doesn’t come close to matching that. Raises and recognition feel random at best.

Anyway, I’ve decided to move on. If you’re considering joining, just make sure you ask the right questions and really think about what you’re signing up for.

Yes indeed, Aramco is a My Way Or The Highway company. They have lost entire divisions that used to be functional with this management philosophy, and they do not seem to care. They used to pay people well to put up with this, now they just pay the minimum that it takes to get anybody in the chair for however long they will put up with it.

The Golden Era is long gone, everybody knows that. Anyone who joined the company after 2008/2009 missed the boat. That is well known. So that would indicate things only get worse in terms of payroll, benefits etc. With that occurring, obviously the Corporate culture becomes more so political, competitive and frankly nasty for expats. Rarely did expats throw each other under the bus, instead they stuck together. Today, expats no longer subscribe to that, it’s me first, eliminate the competition and do whatever it takes to survive, commonly at other’s expense. So easy to see the writing on the wall and to figure out in advance.

@cc depends where you work. So many (myself included) took advantage of extended lunches and leaving early for "maintenance ".

That place is not for everyone for sure. If it hadn't been for my IK support group; i.e., friends, I would not have made my 10-year anniversary. If you can't make the work/ life balance thing work for you then best to exit.
