I hear they are hard and only 3 tries before locked out. How beneficial are they in your work?

@OP 3 tries to kiss a JPEG of an LL's A$$ on your company device can't be that hard to do.
Waste of time. Your own and the company's. It's just repeating things you've learned. Don't do the training and tests on your own time, make the company pay for it.
Ours was supposed to be done last year. Total waste of time. Some SME and TS were failing the first few times through. And Po-----g has added more this year
