Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Is it normal to not get Bonus after you resigned?

I recently resigned from Dell and serving notice period now. My Boss just told me that I won't be getting a Bonus. Not sure if it's the standard or my boss is just pi**ed because i resigned. Anyhow i got a better paying job outside.

That is why you don’t quit or even say you are going to leave until after you have the money.

I quit in April 2022 and retired. Living the dream!

@jh because the bonus is for work performed last year. But like others have said, you gotta be employed on the day of payout to get it.

For bonus's, it typically only gets paid out if you are still with the company on the day it's paid out. So if you quit BEFORE it's paid out, you will very likely lose out on that bonus.

If a bonus is up to management, then they can and will withhold it from you, however if it is a bonus in which you had to meet certain criteria/goals to get, then that likely will be paid out.

Basically, at Dell bonus's are typically paid out end of March/early April. If you quit March 1st, no... you are not going to get that bonus. This is so people don't quit half way through a year because they found a new job, and then get a fat bonus a few months later.

I'd bet money that this is all in the fine print of that employment contract you signed when you were hired on, or at the very least somewhere in the HR pages.

If you don't have a new job lined up and quit, you are d-mb. If you do have a new job lined up then, make them pay you your Dell bonus.

If you resign/quit, you aren't typically eligble for ANYTHING other than the previous days you worked. Why on earth would they pay you out on a bonus lol? Those who get laid off DO get a full bonus, however.

Yes. Pretty standard.

You shouldn’t expect the bonus if you leave before the payout date. Part of the purpose of the bonus is to motivate people to stay.

April is the month to resign at Dell, right after the bonus payout in March. The bonus program states that you have to be employed at Dell on the date the bonus is paid out. This was typical for profit sharing programs at other companies.

I retired in April!

Dell could pay you bi they won't because they're an unethical, shiitt-hole joke of a company. They'll tell you you have to be present to receive your bonus. They'll even delay your bonus until after you're gone so they don't have to pay you.

@OP Yes this is in the t&c for the bonus plan.
Which is why I'm waiting for the cash in hand before I leave.
