Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Apologize for the layoff rumors

I hope the folks who predicted a layoff every week since the last one in November will finally give up and apologize to all current employees for needlessly strirring the pot. It's March and no sings or talk of a layoff. Nada. Zilch. Not one AVP or VP has mentioned anything even remotely related to a layoff. Just because Vz has uhh ndertaken layoff every year doesn't mean we should have another one this year - big or small. Even Dan is more focussed on cost/opex transformation via AI and renegotiating contracts, not via layoffs. Our financial performance/net adds has been stellar and the markets are rightfully rewarding us for that. Our debt profile has gotten much better and with buybacks and a committed dividend, Wall St loves us which will help us in the capital markets to fund other initiatives as well. TMo better watch their backs.

Remember - even a broken clock is right twice a day. Some of you are just that. Stop with the fear mongering

Why apologize for stating what is true? All prophesied here has largely come to be other than there being a mass union layoff and even there buyouts will likely be used to lower headcount before August. Dan has a plan he has been quite clear about and yes it includes more layoffs at least for the coming year or so.

@ca ya …. Sounds familiar… most of cwa rejected 2012 too where we started paying for healthcare due to ACA …. A lot rejected 2016 too when forced back to cover hurricane disaster after out 7 weeks …. … so it’ll get forced thru guaranteed

@f5 small correction he is here for himself to be rewarded for driving stock price up so the board members can ALL cash in their stock options for a hefty profit … once we see 60’s you’ll see them all start to dump their holdings . It’s a predetermined number they are driving the price too and they’ll all sell once getting close to maximize

@cm Are you kidding me ? Plan ? THERE IS NO PLAN, other than the "master" cash in the most he can. The guy has no leadership skills whatsoever. He's not here for Verizon ! He's here for him, and him alone. We're his "pawns" in this game. And " mixed martial arts" ? ....my @$$ - He is a nobody, a tool.

@cv I’m not saying nothing will happen on March 19th, but I highly doubt it. I imagine March 19th is just the last day for the last round of people to come off the books from the November 2025 layoffs.

@cm the keyword being "voluntary" true?

@cm I know it doesn’t seem likely if you ask around the company but imo the extra cost of a vsp is worth the ability to make another big cut that everyone suspects is coming and say ok let’s move on from the distractions.
Give an out to the ones that want it and a little bit of confidence in the ones that stay. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

We are just back to the baseline of this site. BUT you'd be a fool to forget what Dan said- they are cutting 5 BILLION dollars from OPEX( operational expenditures). A large chunk of our OPEX is salaries. And he is always talkign about being leaner, what do you think that means ? Obviously cuts will continue, doesn't do anyone any good to put their head in the sand about this reality.

I have heard VSP from both a SVP and an AD. I find this hard to believe but its what they are saying. Maybe management should stop toying with employees. The CEO is responsible for all of this turmoil. He could follow through on the things he promised i.e... share the long term plan with us. He also could address employees and tell them not to worry about any more layoffs. Instead he spends his time on selfish narcissistic pursuits like, look at me I'm a cowboy, I'm rich, I'm a mixed martial arts master, I am an AI expert because I use it to write my wife a beautiful poem, and publicly firing an employee during a meeting. He has plenty to be ashamed of. Verizon needs some young smart leadership not and old tired looking narcissist.

@OP wtf lol, liar. total debt increased to 131 billion in December. VZ also issued hybrid bonds ($3.3 billion) in Europe just a few weeks ago presumably to fill a war chest for layoffs in Europe, still blocked by EWC

Nobody from the execs said sh-t about lowering the debt. Opex/Capex cuts will be used to buy back stock to increase its price artificially.... yeah this is great for big investors and CEO but the debt remains the same
