Bosses who shouldn't have those titles

Why does CVS and it's affiliates allow bullies to be in leadership roles? My boss is demoralizing, hostile, and downright mean. This boss has their few favorites and if you aren't part of their group, then you are treated like a low-life. This boss should never have been given a role where they have direct reports. For those of you going through something similar, hang in there! Finally, people have listened and this boss won't be needing their exit countdown any longer!!!!!

My department has 2 EVPs reporting to each other - and 2 wrongs don't make a right!

@e1 This! When you challenge standing processes with clear operational gaps, and propose alternative solutions, it is treated as disruptive. You are resisting conformity. Middle management and directors would rather maintain something broken if it means they retain ownership and control.

The yes men and women are promoted. Optics are rewarded over outcomes. I’ve witnessed executive leadership enable known workplace bullies and protect them. When one identifies an impending operational risk (PG payouts, SLAs, client disruption, etc.), rather than recognize it as diligent risk mitigation, higher ups in job title feel exposed and become defensive. Rather than leadership taking accountability, it is disregarded, swept under the rug and narratives are formed against the underlings. They are targeted and scapegoated. Accuracy and validity doesn’t matter. The hierarchal class system must be preserved.

It’s all about ego preservation, power trips, and maintaining the facade. Manufactured wins with inflated vague KPIs on a presentation deck are valued more than quality work and operational rigor. Career trajectory is impacted more by su-king up, joining the clique, smiling and playing along with the act. Honest communication is deterred. Perception is more important than reality.

The real problem is that CVS doesn't want people who challenge the status quo, they only want yes-men, which is why nothing changes and things have gotten this bad.

And they wonder why Unions come about. Unionize. Share the wealth.

@OP

Learn from them and do better…….

It’s worth the hard slog. Chump managers will never help you. They just coddle you.

You have more in you, and you’ll prove it,

@OP I no longer work there. Thank god. You described my former boss. Horrible scheming and lying person out for herself and lies that she "protects her team". Spent team meetings and 1:1s talking about her personal life. She cannot make one powerpoint slide. Uses wrong branding and does not care.

@ar The "bad apples" are the ones who are kool-aid drinking yes-men, and know how to kiss b-tt and play favorites, and only care about work/metrics, etc. Hard to not promote someone like that, when CVS loves people like that.

Welcome to CVS. Field leadership is just as bad. Fear, threats, and intimidation is how bosses at CVS run things. You are right that there are people who shouldn't have titles that do.

There are bad apples in every department. Company leadership should start cleaning the house.

Remember that company culture comes from the top down. And sadly the fact that people like this get promoted shows that corporate knows, they just don’t care.
