Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

End of March Layoffs

Take this with a grain of salt but I heard from two unrelated sources that there will be a 1K cut at the end of March with the focus on mgmt (Dirs, SVPs...) We'll know soon enough but that layer is fairly fat and this is exactly where they would get the biggest bang for the buck (and the impact will be minimal).

@OP Reality will be once this level is cut 80% wont find a job at same level. Top talent always will...Frontier Exec already locked up a bigger job at Spectrum. Just watch the Strayer, High School Diploma DEI get sent to the fields,

Why does everyone on these boards throw stones at each other. Can't we just be supportive and use this site to share information and provide guidance to those who are worried about their jobs and families? Corporation greed is our enemy not each other.

@d8 Haven’t seen any of you building the plant . You are not the heart and soul of anything. Especially if you are management. Don’t confuse your busybody nothingness for actual contribution.

And please someone - anyone - tell me - what does the Sr. Manager do? Our’s has 3 supervisors that report to her and has made 0 impact in the year since she took over…comical…no vision, and NO leadership running a large organization.
I don’t get it….

The whole lot of them deserve what they get particularly on the retail side. They are nothing but pirates trying to abscond with as much bo--y as they can carry.

I only wish it on those they did nothing to help save anyone in the last group and hope they enjoy that moment when they are told your position has been eliminated.

one thing i have learned over the years- you just have no idea what your boss has to do. it's ALWAYS so much broader than those that report to you would think, it's shocking really.
it's definitely one of those " you don't know what you don't know" kind of situations. Some people just can't understand that

It is about time the 5 and up club pays for their malfeasance. Unfortunately most are expert at A licking and lying, so many will escape Dan's wrath.

Folks wishing that others lose their livelihood is sad, whether you think they earn their $ or not. I personally lost mine to outsourcing years ago and yes, it hurt. But I would still not wish that on anyone else. Do I agree that there are too many layers? Also yes.

HR made the decision that it was easier to create more layers and pay title-driven millenials/gen z's less $ for the titles that would cost a lot more to promote tenured employees. That is how you end up with Band 5's with <5 directs.

@a9 considering there are only about 2500 senior directors (b5) and even less incumbents are the levels above that, 1K is quite substantial. Now if you include directors and ADs (B6), then yes, 1K is a drop in the bucket.

@OP I so hope ADs, Directors and above do get booted. Single threaded upward reporting and very bureaucratic. Will they be able to create an ATS resume? Not one ATS Resume but dozens customized for each opportunity? Will they get over the feeling of failure? What will they tell their families -- it wasn't personal? Is there savings and portfolio fat enough?

Oh wait ... they are expert self-promoters ... network to climb over others ... paid handsomely ... and protect their buddies! They will all be fine and land fancy-titled jobs at other organizations where they can continue their ineffective management.

Alpharetta is overrun with managers that need to go. Especially now since GAAL has been combined with the Florida market.

In EMEA where i work. There is a team with an AD and three managers its crazy they don't need three managers and certainly don't need the AD. They report to a SR director in the States. Should be just one manager and that's it.

@ak Agreed 100%. The corporate obsession with adding AVPs and stacked AD layers is exactly what slows organizations down. You don’t need five titles between execution and strategy. A strong Sr. Director reporting directly to a VP is more than enough. Everything in between often becomes bureaucracy, politics, and meeting overload disguised as ‘leadership.’

If a role exists just to create another reporting checkpoint instead of driving measurable impact, it’s not leadership — it’s title inflation. Trim the layers, increase accountability, and let real operators lead.

As an individual contributor, I have AD, Director, Sr. Director, AVP above me before we even hit band 4.
None of these are really doing actual work other than “managing” and “stakeholding”. Each one keeps showing themselves as “know it all” kind. Shallow understanding of most topics. If I can retain, I would just retain Sr Director above me who is directly reporting to a VP. We would get benefit from adding additional individual contributor.
