Thread regarding IBM layoffs

"Companies that have cited AI when reducing employee head count include Amazon, IBM, Salesforce, and HP."

The ask Mr AI-washing about AI-washing. How much are they paid for this hogwash?

IBM is implementing 2 strategies.

  1. Get costs down as far as possible. Thus the offshoring to low cost countries
  2. Get revenue per employee up to 300k. Thus the continued focus on lower headcount

NOTE IBM at 300k per employee nets a headcount in the 240k range. This equates to where Gerstner rightsized IBM to back in the early 90’s

AI is just another excuse for IBM to RA employees. Same as it ever was, as the song goes. IBM's figurative di-k must hurt badly from sc--wing so may employees up the a-s. And no, ChatGPT, I don't need you to help me "craft a more measured critique." IBM management can eat sh-t.

Every mess is by design itself with the help of politicians only. below simple changes fix almost all problems.

  1. Get rid of 60k minimum wage limit which allow company to by pass looking for US citizens for work ahead of h1b or any temp work visa. Simple law that every job must be offered to US citizens first with minimum 8 months training provided if needed. h1bs' not issued for full 3 years without guarantee they train 5 US citizens every year.

  2. Offshore to onshore ration for any IT department or any department for any company must not be lower than 3( US citizens) to 1( offshore resource).

  3. Every temp work visa sponsor's site must have mandatory surprise audit 2 times a year paid by company upfront when applying for visa. This itself eliminate 90% abuse.

  4. Every recruiter must have license number and must be help accountable for breaching applicant's privacy. Recruiters must help accountable for dirty recruiting games but we can't do that until we know who is hiding behind fake job posting and fake emails to collect profiles and misuse private details. Loan officers handle way smaller portion of information than these cheater recruiters. Why no license requirement for each and every recruiter same like loan officer. this will fix almost all hiring problems.

Loop holes are kept purposely so companies can exploit and politicians can get funding for their campaigns. its all about power and money who bed with each other and fool everyone else !!!

@a5 Yes. AI is magic. It causes jobs to disappear in the West and then magically reappear in India. But I have a hunch the pendulum will soon swing back. Lots of whispers being heard that neither AI (Artificial Intelligence) nor AI (Actually Indians) are living up to the hype and hiring will soon have to resume.

They are all lying. IBM is the worst company who has lied for 3 decades as it sheds US employees and moves jobs to countries few people can find on a map. Stop the lying about how great watsonx is, how great AskHR is, how great AskIT is. A high school freshman could create better systems. IBM is now shouting from the mountains they plan to hire 3-6x more "entry level" people and pair them with AI as that combo is now better than experienced people. SMH. So much lying. Fire band 9 and 10s and replace with band 6 and 7s. They need to be call out loudly and often.

@OP Does the "I" in "AI" stand for "India"?? It is funny how when big tech lays people off for "AI" they always seem to either apply for a similar number of H1B Visas so foreign workers can take those jobs, or they just build an offshore facility and hire workers over there. Tech workers are facing a nightmare. I feel worse for the young people with shiny degrees and big loan bills who cannot get a job at all because of this. And sadly this Administration seems fine with this. I am not at IBM, but in the same cr-p boat. There is a bunch of us on X who track and report on American replacement in tech if you want to join us.
