Thread regarding Optum layoffs

The slow bleed of benefits

Are they just going to keep slashing our benefits bit by bit until people get fed up and quit? It's a cost-effective way to reduce staff without the bad press of mass layoffs. It feels calculated and cruel.

No, most large companies are in a race to the bottom right now when it comes to rewarding the folks doing the work. Only way to get better benefits is to be the CEO and pump up the stocks.

When they offered the buyout in 2017 or 2018 so many people took the offer and it cost Optum so much money they will never do it again. It was a loss of knowledge and there was a significant incident afterwards likely because of the exodus.

@a6 being held back by accepting a benefit by this company not realizing how bad my job would get and now being tied for two years due to a policy of repayment of that amount. That’s what’s keeping me here. If I get laid off I don’t have to repay it so that gives me hope since this company and my dept is in the ground.

@a8 I’m not grateful to be employed by an awful company who cut my bonus, raise, 401k, doubled my work and doubled my health premium. As soon as I can get out of what I’m tied to I’m out. Stop the boomer a-s mentality. No one cares.

@a6 simply put wanting a severance package. Optum is too scared to offer a voluntary option like UHG because too many people wanted to leave UHG and it freaked them out.

Absolutely. First they trim staff, then they trim benefits, then they offshore, next stage we’ll be sold to a hedge fund

It is absolutely calculated. A company this size does not make these changes wo a team of people contemplating impact.

@OP I’m just grateful to be employed. Everything works out in the end. Times are changing.

@a6

Same thing that's causing the degradation of benefits. H1B sc-b labor and offshoring.

If you think you can get better benefits elsewhere, what's stopping you?
