Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Can one volunteer to be laid off?

For whatever reason, they don’t want to work anymore. Can they signify manager to have them in the laid off list. When is the latest to let them know (as layoff is normally planned ahead).

They won’t because about half the company would sign up, myself included

@OP I've heard that "leadership" is worried that offering severance and asking for volunteers would result in severe gaps in knowledge.

So we should expect the current situation to continue.

Death by a thousand cuts.

@ar oh wow!! I guess I shouldn't be surprised to hear WellMed will face another RIF round end of February. It feels like anything our organization is doing right now is temporary somehow..... But what do I know? I think my plan between now and the end of February is to "take it easy" and not stress about a thing. What's the point? lol.

I doubt you "officially" can - but if you have a good relationship with anyone within your leadership line I think if that is what you wanted and preferred.....that you could "unofficially" find a way to let them know. I realize every department is different - but I know without a doubt that my leadership would have preferred to RIF employees that they knew wanted to be vs. ones that didn't. (My department and leadership is very human and very caring though. We've always been fortunate in that way)

I wish they’d offer buyouts like they did on the United side.

Sounds like a wonderful career move. But as the OP states "they don't want to work no more"

Quit and go live off your trust fund then. I need good employees to work with.

If they consider this a resignation you can’t even collect unemployment. Or worse yet try and make you miserable to quit. Wait until Feb and see if you are on the list. It usually takes a couple months to get the paperwork put together for a layoff. I don’t put anything past these snakes.

In addition to what has already been said, it looks like the Feb 19th RIF has already been set up, at least for Wellmed in TX

@OP I'd be very careful with this - they could consider that a resignation and deny you severance.

Tried this as well. I get the feeling that there is not a thing unless it comes down from high. Also, if your manager is also at risk, letting you go early just makes his/her life more difficult.

Someone in a recent thread addressed this. You can ask, but the RIF seems to be whatever the algorithm spits out. Take care of yourself!
