I work in downstream engineering. The company Im interviewing with is in commodities trading. I’m not positive if I want this potential job or not, but I do want to do the interview and evaluate the potential offer. But for some reason I have this nagging that Exxon will fire me for looking at other jobs. Is that true or am I just being anxious?

Since you posted this using the company computer your days are now numbered. Start packing.
I'm concerned here about the potential FERC violation, going from operations to marketing/commodities etc. I would plan to resign after the new interview whether successful or not.
EM is so dysfunctional now that you could put that trip on your expense account and it would get reimbursed and nobody would figure out it was a job interview trip.
Lmao if ur this scared ull never get away from xom. Bend over...
Careful OP, the tracker they implanted in your a-s would beep as soon as you are leaving Texas and sending amber alerts to your manager and their manager's manager.
You need to wrap your a-s with tin foil to block the signal while you are interviewing. Make sure it's wrapped securely all over and don't fa-t as it could also inadvertently trigger the sensitive chips.
You are either dead internet or not smart enough to be employed by Exxon or anyone else.
Psst, don't use your T&E card...
EM has tattle tales? now all the PIP drama make sense, you guys hire children off the playground
@OP I’m curious, did you get PIPd?
I'll share my own personal tale...
In 2021 I was headhunted for another company, with a better position, resulting in a 20% pay rise plus bonus potential. Having been with EM for a while I was hesitant to take it, and sought advice from the confidebtial 'Mentors' that were set up I some countries to improve morale after COVID layoffs. He advised me to take the position, but unfortunately that phone call was overheard by the guy in the cubicle next to me, that then told my boss about it. My boss told me I would be stupid to take it, that he would look after me in this year's ranking (prior years was Outstanding), and that my potential if I stayed in EM would soon dwarf that 20% potential rise. I turned down the offer and stayed. I didn't get fired. What happened was i was dropped down in the rankings later that year, NI, and told that this was solely because I had considered something and looked elsewhere and that when discussed in the ranking pool, it was viewed as being disloyal to EM.
I never fully recovered my ranked position, and eventually resigned a couple of years later. My boss at the time of resignation asked me why I didn't talk to him first and they said they didn't see it coming, and perhaps they could have convinced me to stay. I relayed to him the story above and told him I was stupid the first time, but I had learned my lesson now. I was very happy to leave, in a company now without all the B.S and much happier. About same pay with the new company, less than if I had jumped ship the first time around, but I'm content with what I have. The day I handed in my resignation was the happiest I had felt in many years.
So in summary, I don't think you would be fired, but i would guess you would be treated like a pariah instead
take a sick day like everyone else you buffoon
@OP Don’t tell your boss.
You had a “family emergency” and you need to take few days off. None of anybody’s business why you’re doing it.
Do not take your corporate phone with you on the interview. You can be tracked to the location/building of the interview.
@av I think the poster is making fun of the fact the post is pretty d-mb
@a4 it’s posted anonymously. The company doesn’t know. You’re stupid here.
We got a runner!
@OP they won’t fire you. It’s important to know your worth at a company by exploring positions and opportunities at other companies. Think about everyone who has left EM for other companies. They had to do interviews. Your boss doesn’t need to know that you are interviewing elsewhere. Take time off if you do consider the interview.
@a4 okay further context: I want to ask people for advice about staying/leaving but don’t want word to get back to my boss if it’s something that would result in termination
Yes you will be fired, Exxon knows who is posting on this site… what a totally stupid question
