Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Verizon once again handled it wrong …VSP’s should have been offered

VSP’s would have been a way to keep quality employees and save money with tenured higher paid reps taking packages. I personally would have taken a package so it could have freed up someone younger who wanted to grow with Verizon. If the VSP process was done there would have been less layoffs to announce and stores inheriting quality reps and managers from the closing locations.

Regretting that I didn’t take VSP. Also once the layoff rumors hit I told my boss that I volunteer. I’m at a different stage in my life and would gladly go and allow a younger person to keep their job - a single mom, a new parent, someone with a chronic illness who needs quality healthcare coverage. And yet I still made the cut and I’m still here. I am dealing with survivors guilt.

People who say “you should have taken VSP”- I tried. I volunteered. Many in my department volunteered. We were denied as “your department has not been impacted.” Trust me, there were many of us.

VSP would not help accomplish what was really needed which was deeper cuts especially the dead waste at the senior leadership level. Some have been there for decades, had HR complaints against them but yet seemed to be protected. Wipe them out and things will get better. This should have been done back when Hans started.

Took the VSP last year because HR was so stupid that they accidentally admitted I was on the RIF list. When too many older staff got targeted, the package got fatter because the lawyers got worried about age discrimination. Glad I took it and sorry for all my teammates who stayed around for the RIF.

The last VSP only netted 4800 employees. Wasn't enough for the bigwigs.

The VSP crowd is always “next time I’ll take it” every time it comes up

Dan is not the VSP type if you haven’t noticed. He is here to cut. Hans might have offer another “pay to go away” but Dan is just go away. I wouldn’t be surprised if he looks to change the existing severance package which is above industry norm.
