As a tech with a goal of going into network engineering, should I give up? I don’t want to be a tech forever but this is making me lose hope.

@OP stay a tech but start looking at local utility companies. Besides PGE utilities seem to be the most stable jobs if you like working with your hands and anytime they need more money they just go to the local psc
and get customer rates raised, telecom should lobby for the same privileges. Comms is as crucial as power in modern society.
it's al occupied by indians already inshore or offshore, if you're not one if them - move on to a diff field
@OP if you’re a tech in the field, stay that way. I’m the end someone has to do the physical work of building a network. Until they contract it you’re indispensable.
@OP Please don't give up hope. Wait it out you're in a good place. I was you and it all worked out! Do your job well and always be professional and you'll be just fine.
I spent 20+ years at VZW only to get replaced by contractors. I wouldn’t give up a respectable job as a piano player in a New Orleans “house of ill repute” to chase a career at Verizon.
@OP learn, certify and find opportunities.
Traditional telecom is a dying field.
There is no more career progression. Get out before it's too late.
Never give up. Don’t throw your towel unless the game is over. Life goes on so with your goal.
Level Up is DOA
Me thinks this means…there is no career progression.
There will be no career progression, you're better to apply elsewhere to move forward in your career. You're far more likely to be outsourced to a contractor and/or laid off, than to move up there.
It will be all contractors before you get there
