Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

If ya think about it......

This whole sh*ituation is down to three things:

1). Hans. He was the CEO when we saw the company going from being leader in everything to leader in nothing an losing in the market. Buck starts and stops with Hans, all the while he spent more time at sports events than actually running the company. GUILTY.
2). The Board. They signed off on the plan every year. They are ultimately responsible to the shareholders. They need to be held to account and changed. GUILTY
3). The dead-beat VLT. They came up with, and 'executed' (right word) the plan that got us in this situation. In particular Scampath. GUILTY.

ALL need to be changed otherwise zero credibility. One down, two to go.

I was laid off from VZ in 2015. Things were starting to go off the rails around then -- e.g. buying Yahoo and AOL, launching GO90, hiring execs like Diego Scotti who knew little or nothing about telecom, bringing in Hans despite his track record at Ericsson, etc. Looking back I think I escaped just in time -- Verizon did me a favor.

I found another job in the tech industry soon enough, related to what I did for VZ, so it was a smooth transition. More stable and humane, less stressful environment. Stayed there until I recently retired. I still know a lot of V teamers, and y'all have my sympathy. Take heart and buckle up.

@ad Diego was a piece of shhhh. He wasted the VZ name in search of Cannes Film Festival BS. He put his faith in bad agencies who su-ked VZ out of billions of dollars, and started this downturn. Hans is complacent because he signed off on it all.

@a8 This is spot on. Look back at who started the debt accumulation through meaningless purchases. McAdam and the Board back in 2014.

What did you, personally, do about it?
I got a MBA and several certifications. Learned to code (yep), put the match + 15% into the 401K and saved a lot of cash (3 years net salary)
Sure the writing was on the wall for years and I got prepared.

Good luck
