Leadership Saved Themselves, Not the Team

Being part of a recent round of layoffs has given me a lot to think about — not just about my own career, but about leadership, accountability, and the values that guide organizations.

In many cases, it seemed that leadership roles were protected while teams — the people who did the day-to-day work that drove results — were let go. It’s a tough reality to process, but also a revealing one.

The new management says they want a flatter organization. That means fewer SVPs and VPs. Those ranks have been hit hardest in this round of firings.

@OP The board of directors has been completely changed, and most of the leadership has been replaced. Pay attention to what's going on at the very top of the company, not in the lower levels.

@179 Same here. Years of experience and institutional knowledge and in the end, none of it mattered.

@dq Still waiting for my Director to be let go. She's totally useless... Tells me one thing, tells someone else another, and then completely changes the story in a team meeting. It's no wonder no one knows what the he-l is going on.. Too many fabrications exiting her mouth and she still can't figure out that we all talk to each other!!

My department brought in a SVP to replace an employee on a lower pay scale - make that make sense. It was a biased decision - case of who you know and not what you know.

My SVP is still here sadly. She must have some serious dirt on the higher ups.

that's very true. We were literally left with directors and above. I was doing exactly my job and more, and still got let go.

Hmm my group experienced the opposite. We lost a large amount of our lower level employees in last years cut, this time it was the VP’s and SVPs that were cut
