Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Remote deam and the pink life at Dell

1- You think Dell can go back to full remote for everybody ?
2- and you think that layoff can be stopped at a certain time ?

@bm I'm in Cyber but my best friend was in FED sales and he started 3 years before I did (so 2014ish.) He was always 3 days in, 2 days at home. I've known plenty of people over the years who were in various orgs at dell who were the same. 3 days in office, 2 at home.

Not sure why Dell decided to go 5 days/week tbh... I really don't think most people would care if it were a true hybrid environment - 3 days in, 2 at home. But 5 days is IMO 100% unnecessary for most orgs.

I mean, my org spans the entire globe so like, every meeting I'm in is virtual anyways and NOBODY on my team even goes to the office I go to. Who tf am I supposed to "collaborate" with in person?

The only reason dell is enforcing this (for now) is because of tax writeoffs and the hope that it will get people to quit.

@bm I'm in ISG and never go in. My manager doesn't care.

@bh what org were you in? In ISG we were always 5 days in office since I started working here in 2015 until the pandemic.

  1. No but, I bet my savings that they reduce it from 5 days back to 3 days... like it's ALWYAS BEEN pre-covid. Full remote? idk, probably not.

  2. No. Dell is on a layoff frenzy and they've lost control at this point. The only time it will ease up is when dell gets to their "magic number" of ideal employees company wide but, until that happens? Absolutely not.

@OP Yes dell can go back to WFH, but that would be a smart move, so they won't. With as big as they are on reducing costs they sure are oblivious to the fact that WFH could save them around $10k per employee per year. Bases on the January report of 108,000 (we all know it's less now so this is just a hypothetical) employees that amounts to 1,080,000 per year just for implementing something virtually every employee wants, and has proven to increase productivity.
