Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

AMD is onboard for packaging and 18A-P, nvidia for logic and packaging

It’s weird time. Many companies are lining up for packaging and 18A-P. Big A is signed up for 14A. But still managers are asked to prepare list for next round of layoffs.

Looks like 18A is ready for production, at least for small die.

Company is not being very specific but it does seem like 18A continues to be challenged for yield, yet if it can produce enough useable die then that pays the bills, and yield will improve over time.

Considering all that they stuffed into it (TD is like Memento, it never remembers the past), just getting to the start of the prod ramp is notable.

Looks like the stock got this priced in prior to the F52 show and tell. Not everything is about mega cap tie ups.

Naga can say whatever, but once 18A is ramping, that likely enables the next round of layoffs. TD and the fabs are still far too overstaffed.

Also expecting to see some non-EUV fab sales at some point, as they will never be used for external customers. Sell them to a lagging-edge foundry now, using contracts for the existing WSPW to sweeten the deal. This is just the kind of deal LBT is good at.

Foundry is shifting from a IDM1.0 strategy of permanent, sustained overcapacity to one where the capacity is determined based on proven demand.

That will take time and eventually involve selling at least the non-EUV fabs, badge flipping at all sites and continued reductions everywhere.

Expect this to be happening even as Foundry picks up meaningful external contracts. This is because most fabs have too many tools and therefore too many engineers and techs, even when run at capacity. That is how extreme the overcapacity remains, to this day.

TSMC doesn't have an army of people at each site for Yield and other fab support. That is done at the process level, not at the fab level.

This is all whale talk. Until money flows from the whale, it's meaningless.

I amen how many of us know of deadwood in our own groups and beyond?

Report your co-workers that are dead wood. Keep a list of all the wrong things they do and report them to Human Resources.

I’m sure the lawyers are all drawing up exit clauses:
“If Intel causes a delay or cannot produce expected results, all promised funding is null and void”

Are they really onboard though? Or just paying the political tax to do business.

It's very ridiculous, Intel, Nvidia, Apple, AMD they all know this is calling a horse a zebra, but they are afraid of Trump and dare not openly oppose it.

It all looks good in the media. But. you know Intel. How many times are they gonna fall for the promises. I still maintain a strong “Sell” rating.

It is in your dream. Wake up, where is the line of customers? Are you in 2030 or 2040?

With Intel’s bad management on security, AMD’s IP will be leaked, not only to everyone in Intel, but also 3rd party apps.

No joking, Intel automation manager sent Intel’s secret data and design to a small company PDF Solutions. All Intel manufacturing IP have been leaked.

It is a dead end for AMD, if it ever work with Intel.

Lead time. Pure and simple.
Any customer who signs on now won't have anything out for 12-18 months. Long time to hold onto deadwood.

AMD will not put its fate into Intel’s hand, and will not give design to Intel to be stolen by the competitor.

Nvidia already said not consider using IFS before 2027.

If IFS is ready, why not manufacture for Intel? Why Intel reserved 2nm capacity from TSMC?

No, it’s just late stage capitalism. If customers are happy we’re wasting too much money on employees. Nothing weird about it.
