Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Was there a RTO ANNOUNCEMENT?

I am a rehire and not updated in the system yet. Can someone confirm?

I’d say it’s a tactic to get people to quit before bonus payouts and raises but heck those aren’t happening anyways.

The need to build bona fide HQs in Seattle, SV/SF, LA, and probably Dallas if they want to have everyone in an office and not cut top tier talent. Let’s be real, only us lifers stay in MN. Everyone else leaves after they get the opportunity. DC isn’t a tech or finance hub either really.

It’s true. I’d buy their bs reason of better collaboration if my entire team weren’t in India. You really want to have collaborative discussions, stop offshoring.

FYI, they can track your VPN so if they wanted they can (and probably will) pull that report to see who is abusing the system so badging in and leaving won’t work. I fully agree this RTO is bogus but the writing was on the wall the second Hemsley stepped in.

I drive in over 30 minutes. There's no way people are going to drive in, go through all the security, walk to the inner door past more security, and then drive home through rush hour traffic. Once you get in it's not so bad. It sounds like it's the whole logistics of before and after childcare or needing an extra car that people have an issue with. I don't have that problem, but I agree with them. It's horrible for people to have to drive in when most team members are in India or in other states or countries.

Malicious compliance says you drive there, scan in, drive home. Sure the mileage su-ks but you do drive there and back, are physically in the building, and spend as much time talking to other people in person as you do at home anyways.

Very few people have to use their badge ever again after initially entering the building.

The purpose of having a “hybrid” work model is to combine the flexibility and focus of remote work with the collaboration of being in office. There’s nothing hybrid or flexible about being mandated to sit at a desk by yourself four days a week when your team is all sitting at home. It’s obviously strategic and it’s obvious with the strategy is.

@OP yes, it’s real. If you didn’t get an email earlier this week you probably aren’t affected. Tons of people who are within 30 min of Twin Cities or DC office were told they’re being switched to hybrid employees and starting 10/20 must report to the office an average of 4 days per week.
