Transition Offer

Saw a guy on LinkedIn who says he got “laid off” with only a transitional offer through January 2026.

How does one know if their offer from HPE was “transitional”? Does it explicitly state as such? My and my colleagues offers were silent on the matter however the titles and bonus were disappointingly low. :(

@1z9 I would not be surprised if that was dictated by the person inserted by Elliot

I am thankful for HPE helping me through my transition. I finally feel like the person I was meant to be without extra baggage hanging.

I predict several of the transition offers will be extended, and already heard of one person that got re-hired. The integration timelines for many things are completely unrealistic and several are already running way behind. Integrating companies of this size takes at least a year, often longer - so whoever put those timelines together is an amateur in merger/acquisition integration.

Those transition guys are the lucky ones.

I’d rather be laid off

I have a transitional offer. It says it’s a transitional role and what the end date is. In mine it says I get the severance pay but they call it a “completion bonus” instead. The amount is the same as the severance. So basically I’m getting laid off but I have X months of employment between now and that date, so more time to look.

Transitional buys one a little time staying in their current job and will eventually be laid off when the company doesn’t need them.

People in transitional positions are kept to “train” and share knowledge to the folks staying behind.

Yes it would explicitly say. Doesn’t mean you can’t be laid off next year, though. Just there is no current plan to do so.
